one of my users is trying to send some tif files through outlook and it's crashing our exchange server?!

here are the specs

exchange 2003 sp1 on server 2003 no sp1
outlook 2003

if I delete the outbox content that includes the tif email, it stops rebooting, but as long as the email stay in the outbox, it reboots the server.

I took a look at the tif files and they looked clean. they were created by an HP scanner and I can open the file just time.

If anyone has seen this before, please enlighten me on how to fix this problem...

Thanks,

-FP

that's the thing, there are virtually no errors, all it shows is that the system was shutdown unexpectedly...with no other events.

the HP Scanners usually are jpeg in a tiff wrapper (don't ask). Try a different extension. Do you have server virus scanning the mail database? Perhaps it's hitting that and dying. Is it just tiffs made from this scanner, do jpegs from this scanner work, and can you grab any old tif from the web and include it without it crashing...

One thing to try to see where the errors are coming from in go into the system manager and you can up the logging lever of the server. I had issues with the replication service myself and by allowing for more logging I was able to finally see what was going on. I have not upgraded to 2k3 yet, but in 2K you can right click the server and go to properties and there is a logging section. Once you change this logging should take effect instantly. Are you using any virus scanners or spam filters on the server that may not like the files?
