Strange problem...

I just got my sapphire x1800xt 256mb today. For some reason it won't post, fan stays on high, and only displays a black screen on power-up when in the single card slot of a8n-sli deluxe motherboard. I cleared the bios and for the hell of it put in the 2nd pci-express slot (while still in non-sli configuration). The fan drops down to idling speed, and everything works! LOL I have had a 7800gt, x1600 pro, both working in the first slot prior to this installation (same settings, configuration, etc). What's going on here? And if worse comes to worst how bad would performance be in sli mode (8x) with the x1800xt running in the 2nd slot?

So the X1800Xt works in slot2 but not in Slot1....What drivers are you using?

Fixed it For some reason when the card was in the 1st slot the sli auto-detect in the bios assumed it was an sli configuration. I guess if the bios selects sli but the sli chip on the motherboard isn't flipped it disables the 1st slot. Maybe the auto detect changed to sli when it detected a greater power load? So I just manually changed the bios setting to single card and voila. Also, I ran the 3dmark05 demo in both 8x and 16x:

8x= 7728

16x= 7915
