strange sounds from my logitech speakers

I have a set of logitech 5.1 speakers hooked up to my ABIT IC7-MAX3 mobo.

Whenever the HD is working, or I move the mouse, or maximize a window etc. The speakers make wierd "poppiing" "hissing" and "humming" sounds. The sounds get louder by adjusting the speaker volume, but not when adjusting the windows xp software volume. Infact, they still make noises even if I turn the sound to mute.

I can't figure this out. Is this interference or something? What gives?

Sounds like it is some type of interference. I would try a different set of speakers to see if they do it too. Also, try moving the speakers further away from the computer. How close to you have the subwoofer to the machine? Another thing you could try, disconnect the speakers from the computer entirely, and see fi they still make noise when you do the things you mentioned above.

I had similar problems. Turned out that the signals my cell phone sent out were messing with my logitech Z560s. If I moved my cell a few feet away all was fine. It wasn't constant; however, it was still anoying when it occured. They would make a hiss/humming sound when the phone was about to ring... so even if I had it on silent I knew when someone was calling Anyway, it definitely is some sort of interference. I would suspect it is from your mouse if you have a wireless unit. I doubt the HDD activity has anything to do with it... it's some sort of RF device. On a side note... I do have a wireless logitech MX duo and never had a problem with either the keyboard or mouse causing problems. I don't think any other device that I own causes anything either. Try moving the command module (if you have one on your speakers) away from anything that might send out RF or other signals. I noticed that the problem seemed to be caused with my cell phone sitting right by my control module. I could put it right up against my sub or any of the speakers without a problem.

Okay, It's not a cell phone. (Don't have one).

Also, I've tried another set of speakers, and THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING! AGHH!! this is so frustrating.

Is it possible that something is wrong with my motherboard? and that's where the interference is coming from?

If you had a window in the case, it might allow RF signals to get out.
Of course you have to have holes for air to vent.

The noises exists when the speakers are disconnected from the computer (but the speaker wire runs on just the same places as when connected)? Pull the speaker miniplug out of the connector, but duct tape it to stay as much as possible in the same place. If the noise remains the same, then the speaker wires suffers interference. You could try to cover them in tin foil or something (a metal pipe, a plastic water pipe with metalic core, or something)
If not, could you try with a stand-alone sound card? If the hissing sound disappears, then the sound module on your mainboard is at fault

Yeah, i've tried that. The noise DOESN'T exist when the mini-plugs are disconected. By process of elimination, it MUST be the motherboard. grrrrrrrrrr.

It's either the motherboard, or the PSU. There may be noise leaking back through the system via the ground plane when the system is under load. Either that, or it is the motherboard, in which case it is likely to be a design defect with the board. Onboard sound is known to have this issue, although sound cards aren't immune to it either, especially if there is an electrically "noisy" card right next to it.
