Strange XP Errors

I just recently got a 60 ghz 7200 rpm WD hardisk and decided to clean install windows XP on it. I popped in the CD, it booted from it, asked me if i wanted to partition my hardrive into a big NTFS partition, and I said yes.

Halfway through the installation the system hung and I had to restart.

I restarted, windows booted despite the half-complete installation, but of course a few drivers were missing (didn't install it).

I re-installed XP using the CD under the XP OS.

I installed the newest drivers, and it seemed fine for a day or two. Then I decided to scandisk my drive (because I got an infinite loop error while testing out a game and the system hung), and it said it can't scan my hardrive because of some stuff it needs to read AFTER restarting.

It restarted, said it can't read the volume in drive C, and didn't scan, and continued booting.

I restarted again, and this time it scanned fine. After scanning.... it crashes again, saying there's something with "powervr.drv". and locked down my system.

I rebooted again, and its fine now, but I'm starting to thing there might be some compatability issues....

ANYBODY know what the heck went/is wrong?

If there were any hardware compatibility issues, you would have known it immediately when you first attempted to install.
WinXP is a bit sensitive to pushing your hardware too hard (overclocking, aggressive memory timings, etc.). Check your bios settings and back off any that are too aggressive, and see if that helps.

i didn't do anything to the bios since i put it in my motherboard... i don't tweak my bios much. The bios is pretty much the same as it came during the summer. Should I update my bios? Could that be causing some kind of issue with the XP OS?

btw, i have a 250 Watt power supply. Is that causing the problem?

I also tried to defrag. Windows froze on me. No error messages, just plain froze. Keyboard/mouse dead, alt+ctrl+delete doesn't work, reset is the only thing I could do.

Whoa. 250W? That pushing it with your setup. I can't say that's the problem, but it can cause some difficulties. Go with at least a 350W.

Oops missed that. That looks like a power problem to me.

i looked it up, and powervr.sys is actually my graphics card driver. I repartitioned my hardrive, and setup hung at the exact same spot. graphics card conflict? my graphics card is a hercules prophet 4500. (kyro 2) with tv out. When i d/led the critical updates there was something about a hercules driver update...?

Btw, I tried to re-install XP yesterday and it STILL wouldn't get pass the same exact point in the installation. Help plz.

Does Kyro 2 Conflict with XP?

Maybe something wrong with your HDD? Have you tried installing to another HDD?

checked my hardisk out, no errors, and to make sure i even low level formatted it.

still..... freezes at the same exact spot. Help!!! I'm thinking of throwing my xp cd against the wall and running it over with my chair.
