Kinda hard to appreciate it when you didn't grow up playing it. I do not have appreciation for disco music.

Quick question for you guys that I'm too scared to ask in the Shoryuken forums ......when doing special moves for each player (i.e. shoruken, fireball, hurricane kick, etc) and using a low jab/kick for example, does this lesson the amount of damage done? When doing a hurricane kick, I know that using LK shortens the distance and vulnerability, MK goes a little further, and HK goes the distance, but is the damage the same or lessened?

nah it simply changes the speed of it. the damage is the same for any button.

Thanks. I found last night that I was overusing HK/HP, based on the assumption that it did more damage. I was doing it more subconsciously than anything. I'll need to try and mix in low's and medium's and not make myself so vulnerable.

Also, not sure if this was linked to in the OP, but the guide over at gootecks.com is pretty good. You have to sign up and have them email you a link. It's not a move guide, more of an explanation of things, and does a very good job IMO.

yea you definitely wanna mix up the fireball spams for speed reasons. you can catch people jumping early and landing on slow ones if you mix it up.

also mix in some EX fireballs as well, especially when in a fireball fight since if your opponent is throwing a fireball, the first part of the EX one will cancel it out making the 2nd part hit your opponent. you can catch people off guard w/those pretty often.

Good games last night peritusONE.

I finally beat Seth after 50,000,000 tries. Man he is cheap. I thought Gill in SF3 was cheap. This guy takes the cake.

I played with Sakura awhile and she seems pretty good in this game.

It actually depends on the move. Some of them do more damage some change speed. Shoryukens, tiger knee, etc increase damage. Hadoukens do the same except the ex versions which is 2 fireballs of 50 damage each instead of 1 at 70(for Ryu)

oh yea sorry, i was referring only to the fireballs heh

it's different too w/difference characters.

akuma's air fireballs go at different angles depending what punch button you use, and his fiery fireball all goes at the same speed, however depending which punch button you press it can hit your opponent more or less times (1 for LP, 3 for HP).

cviper also has moves where the button pressed will do difference types of moves. her dashing electric shock thing, LP does a low one, MP does a straight one, and HP does one up in the air. and her earthquake move also goes at different distances.

Ya, bl4ckfl4g did that to me last night on one occasion. I think we were in the 3rd round, and it was a close battle with both of us down on health. We were at opposite ends of the screen, and I threw a regular fireball. I hadn't even gotten fully through the animation when the camera cut to him throwing what I guess was an EX or a Super or whatever fireball. As soon as that happened, I just laughed . My fireball canceled his first, but he had 4 more that hit me and ended the match.

hey also, of anyone purchases SF4 from Best Buy, Target, or Toys R Us, can you let me know if they had any Collectors Editions for the PS3 in stock?

i picked up the ps3 one yesterday but it was the regular one and i didn't open it yet because i'm going to hunt for a CE today, and those are the 3 stores i'm going to check out.

I think it was easy. I could breeze through everyone except Seth.

put it on easIEST!

there is easy, easier, and easiest.

easiest is A JOKE.

you can literally, with ryu, jump + HK, crouch + HK, and get perfects almost every round.

when i unlocked characters i was getting like 5-7 perfects each time i beat it.

and if you dont use ryu, you can find some kind of jump in attack, then a low "sweep" type attack to knock them off the ground, w/pretty much anyone.

What? lol I didn't see those other options. I think I just must have scrolled to easy assuming that was the easiest. Thanks now I feel better.

Right. The SRK wikis are very incomplete, but move data like damage has been available for awhile. Here is the Ryu page as an example. The fierce SRK does more than the jab, but only for deep hits (I imagine that's why there are two numbers listed). I can't find where it lists how much vitality each character has, but I thought it was on the order of 1000.

Yeah the numbers are in parenthesis are for the extra hits you get so if you do it deep or get them all you will get all that damage but less if you miss one.

I have an FADC question I don't want to ask SRK. Basically, I don't know what they are.

Yesterday when I was playing I would do an FA (level 2), and then I would dash afterwards and I'd be able to get another hit in, ie, sort of to combo.

But now I'm seeing that a "real" FADC uses up a level of the super bar (it's an EX). Is a "real" FADC just an FA after you cancel from a special move? What strength should the FA be for it to be used in a combo? Just level 1?

Umm...i got into fights about 26 times with different people...lost twice because i was experimenting with the new characters and i didn't know their move set. so i'm 24 - 2 with a bunch of medals. Ken is still almost unstoppable if u just keep pressure on your opponent. Zangief is a lil bit OP but very beatable if you know his weaknesses. Sagat is just way way way OP. of the 26 matches, my 2 losses were against sagat and those guys weren't even THAT good.

as far as seth goes, i haven't lost to him and i've played all the chars against him. he's pretty easy. the key is to keep an offensive on him. the moment you go on defensive or stand still, he will cheese you to death. jump in with a crossover, a light punch/kick then a special move kicks his ass everytime. this works with c. viper. jump in with a heavy kick, do her special kick move, then do her special punch move with a heavy punch. 3-4 hit combo with ease...sorry can't remember the move names.

this game is a blast...i was in 10th grade when the original SF2 came out and have been a fan since then with all the iterations that came out of that game. basically owned all of them. If you encounter someone online that loves the game and was a fanatic like i was back in the days...its gonna be tough to beat them. this "halo" generation unfortunately does not have the appreciation for this game like the old school peeps like me do.

when i have done FADC i just tap MK + MP, i don't hold them at all.

you will know when you do the FADC because your guy will blink yellow (like an EX attack) and since the FADC is done so fast, you will virtually be 'unlocked' from the special move animation immediately.

You should also get used to the sound effects - those will indicate when you've done it right and you can get that extra hit in.

and how about we set up a time for some matches tonight? I'm in Arizona, so let's say...11PM EST, 9PM my time and 8PM PST? Is there some sort of AIM chatroom we can setup and leave open so that people can sign in and discuss playing? I'd rather not use IRC (i haven't used it in years).

A chatroom would be nice. Just to see who's on and what not. I don't think I'll be able to play much tonight... with Lost and all.
