Tier chart is meaningless really. I love using ELF/ROSE and other underrated characters. I love kicking ass on people who think they suck. Hell, I thought gen sucked, well his mantis super does, but he's actually not bad at all.

So which characters do you people like using the most? Against, shotos, I go Dan and repeatedly jump and taunt ROFL. I love using underdog characters and beating the snot out of people at times. And referencing to what the other person in this thread said, yes, there are many many Ken/Akuma/Ryu/Cammy/Bison players out there. Seems a lot of them are only good with one character only. I'd love to go against some of you people here on ATOT. Let's go random!

my main is Balrog now and I'm having a lot of success with him. i wish it showed your win/loss ratio on a character by character basis. i honestly think i've won over 90% of my matches when i've played as him, maybe even like 95%.

my 2nd would be Akuma, then I have a buncha guys I can use but am not THAT great with.

That is a weird looking tier list.

Not that it really matters. I think it only matters because I think it is fun to discuss.

And Dan isn't bad at all. His normals and his kick are awesome and he can hit confirm his ultra.

For bad players like me. Tiers mean nothing.

I stick with sakura and while I'm not THAT great, I like to think I'm getting better. I even won a few ranked matches last night, got up to 420bp and decided to quit while I was ahead

oh yea, how do you do an EX focus attack? it uses 2 EX bars instead of 1..

http://shoryuken.com/wiki/inde...Focus_.2F_Focus_Cancel
At the cost of 50% super meter, an EX Focus can be performed in the middle of any special/super cancelable normal/special attack. Because of necessary cancel into an EX Focus, EX Focus is commonly referred to as "Focus Cancelling".

I.. don't get it

It's the bold part that's tripping me up, too many /'s.. I'm not sure what it means or what it's supposed to do.

a cancel means to do the next move in the middle of the prior one, and it cancels the animation of the first attack and interrupts it with the one you cancelled to.

its like with ken, if you do a fierce punch, then do a fierce dragon punch while that punch is coming out. you will see him lift his arm to get the first hit, then immediately goes into the dragon punch.

it is a way to do combos and link 2 moves together that normally can't be linked unless you cancel them.

It's just listing all of the things you can cancel a focus attack from.

You're familiar with canceling a normal into a special move yes? (purbeast0 described it in the post above).

It's the same idea. You can:
-cancel a normal into a focus attack.
-cancel a special attack into a focus attack
-cancel an EX special attack into a focus attack.

All of those cost two bars.

When you cancel into a focus attack, you can:
-do the focus attack (release mp + mk right away)
-charge up and do the focus attack (depending on how long your opponent is stunned and your timing, this may or may not combo)
-dash without doing the focus attack
-do the focus attack and then dash

It opens up combo opportunities, though it's use varies per character.

For example, Ryu's bread and butter ultra combo consists of:
dragon punch -> focus attack dash cancel (FADC) -> ultra

That is, Ryu does the dragon punches, immediately does the EX focus cancel, dashes without doing the focus attack, and then does his ultra immediately after dashing. His ultra will hit the enemy while in the air.

another really simple tactic with the FADC is to do a special move right next to the opponent (like a dragon punch), then FADC towards, then throw.

it is very easy to catch people with this as they are expecting the rest of your move to come out and next thing the know you are throwing them.

i've used this a little bit with balrogs turn punch and dash punches.

Ah, okay I think I get it.. though I don't think I'll ever be able to understand the timing of it. In training mode I was able to cancel sakura's fireball into the focus attack, but I couldn't get it to work with her shoryuken. Should it work with that move also?

Yes it does. One practical use for FADC with sakura is with her fierce (hard punch) dragon punch. If the opponent blocks and you don't want to get killed afterwards, you can FADC (focus attack dash cancel without doing the focus attack), dash towards your opponent, and then throw them. They may not expect it since they're blocking the whole time. If you dash backwards you can just run away.

Example is in here somewhere.

It does work to some extent, but it's super risky against Gief. I know if I see that FDAC I'm gonna start buffering the motion for SPD, and if you go for throw, Gief's SPD will beat it everytime. It also doesn't work against shotos where their light SRK is off the ground from frame 1.

I play Zangief on ranked. On regular player matches I'll play some Balrog and Honda if I'm bored.

I played against some very good Gen players. I haven't had much success against him because I'm not too familiar with his fighting styles and moves. His pokes and floating combos kicked my ass.

I hate fighting Blanka. That's a bad matchup for Zangief but winnable. But runaway Seth is almost impossible matchup for Zangief. I haven't figured out how to get close enough to do damage. Dhalsim is another hard matchup but not impossible like Seth.

I've only played against one dousche bag that used Seth and he sucked. I think the second cheapest player people use is probably Bison. Let's get our game going!

let me know what all of your tags are... PM me! Thanks.

well yea, you obvoiusly have to use it in the right matchups heh.

when i face zangief, i don't even get close enough to him to let him SPD me. i used to have probs with him but now i really dont (playing as balrog).

Good matches. That was first time I used the custom match invitation to play some here. That worked pretty well although the connection was bit laggy. Little tip: Vary your wakeup running dragon punch. Don't always do it. Any decent player will block it and punish you as you're coming down. I believe Sakura has good normal pokes and floating combos off her EX light hurricane kick. Throw out normal pokes to interrupt advances and moves and then use the light hurricane kick to counter. You gotta be little tricky with Sakura.

Yea, I sometimes get frustrated when I expect something to work and it doesn't work, so I keep doing it expecting it to work all the while a little voice in the back of my head is screaming, "DO SOMETHING ELSE YOU IDIOT." I deliberately tried to find different ways of getting around that green hand thing and of course once I thought I had something, you stopped using it as much.

Good game sandwichcookie! For some reason I've always refused to play Sakura, but it was fun!

Geesh. I fought against an Akuma yesterday and all he did was run away and fireball. Jump fireball. Ground fireball, Jump fireball, Periodically come in with his downward jumpkick into a combo then distance himself again for more turtling. Nice.

yup that is the dime a dozen akuma strategy. it can be frustrating to fight someone like that but typically they lose in the end because they really don't have much skill.
