Naustica! I'd like to go against you. Let's do this. You're latex something right? tenchichrono. I won't be able to play until this weekend though. So let me know when you're available. Purbeast, let's have at it again. sandwichcookie, my Sakura is better now, let's have at it again too. Just finished her Hard Trial in Challenge mode. Seems shotos are easier to finish the trials with for me.

nah, thanks but no thanks I read somewhere that you get better playing against people who are a little bit better than you, not people who just wipe the floor with you. Maybe one day when can I pick up a new character and breeze through the hard trials we can go at it again.

In SF2, the crossup attack, I would block by holding the LEFT direction, which would be back for me, and then after that is blocked, I would now be on the right side and my opponent on the left side, and now to block his followup attacks, I would have to now hold RIGHT to block the attacks.

However in SF4 this doesn't seem to be the case. Last night I was getting screwed over and over by crossups, both with Chrono and Naustica, and I felt helpless. I did not know if it was due to the network connection or what, but I feel like I'm not blocking crossups correctly on SF4, where as on SF2 they were no problem.

If you're on player 1 side and he's on player 2 side. During his jump, even if he's still on player 2 side, you want to block as though you were on player 2 side. so just hold right which will make you walk forward. It looks wierd, but you will block. You could try setting the training dummy to just jump fierce kick and then get used to how to block as well. Distance is the key however because once you get used to blocking cross up, sometimes people will jump in and you'll expect a cross up, but they'll land in front of you and land a free combo.

thanks man.

the thing is, for sf2, i'm only used to SF:AC version, and apparently it's different than ssf2thdr, which is what everyone is talking about now a days so i got all confused. they must have changed the crossup blocking between the original sf2 and the ssf2t upgrade.

usually i try to not let people get me in a positio nto cross me up, which i guess is why i've been okay about it, but that damn zangief last night!!!!

purbeast0, you're probably the second best Balrog I've played. Our matches could have gone either way majority of times. There was this one Balrog I played on ranked that zoned everything near perfect and gave me fits. Zangief is a tough matchup for Balrog imo and you've to work twice as hard to win. Gief standing jab and both the punch and kick lariats will stop Balrog rushing punches. EX rushing punch will armor through regular jab though so I try to mix in different lariats to stop that. Gief kick lariat will beat Balrog's crouching kick sweep so that takes away one of Balrog's greatest weapon. I usually try to bait Balrog to throw out the crouching fierce kick by distancing myself after block moves and then kick lariat. Also, Zangief can SPD throw any dashing punch that hits too deep after getting hit. That's a trade I'm willing to take given Gief's superior lifebar.

I don't really worry too much about crossups because people usually try to run away from Zangief and not get near him. Plus he's really hard to crossup because his late crouching punch lariat will beat or trade with most crossup attempts. Lariat has to be done late while crouching though or else Zangief will eat the crossup. I think the best way to avoid the crossup is to mix your fall recovery with quick and normal. The other player has to time the jump for the crossup and if you get up fast, that can mess up the other player jump timing. What I like to do is to get a crossup or two in blocked or not and then once I have the player thinking crossup and blocking, just jump across without doing a move and go for Ultra or Super 720 grab while they're blocking for nonexistent crossup.

My PSN id is latexpaint. I'm working all through this weekend (7 days suck) because of work backlog but I usually try to play around 10pm eastern couple times a week. I should be on this weekend around that time.

You're probably the Elf player that destroyed me in a random friendly player match. I don't know if that was you but I played this one Elf player couple nights ago that danced and confused me like no other. That was my first experience fighting good human Elf and he had me in total confusion and panic with crossup splashes and throws.

thanks for the comments.

you are also one of the best zangiefs i've played against.

you remind me of the san antonio spurs. you aren't flashy at all and don't do anything to complex, but your fundamental skills put you up there as far as talent goes. you understand the mechanics of the game and play them as perfectly as you can. nothing wrong with that in my eyes!

we will defintely try to run some more matches.

i noticed you kept trying to lure me into the low HK heh. one move that can hit your lariat is the low medium kick, however the spacing has to be PERFECT or it just whiffs, which I did a ton as well.

really good matches though that is for sure.

thx for the asswhipping! Your skill lvl is >>>>> than mine. It's not even close. I had no idea what to do against your Elf, Gen, or Abel. When I panic, I spam lariats. Against Slim, that's my only strategy.

I was trying to figure out how to play Dhalsim against Gief. That's why I continued having your ass beat me with your Lariats. Finally realized the timing and etc. that I needed in order to properly attack against your Lariats. Man, Dhalsim is such a boring character. Let's game next time again! GG! Nah, my level is moderate actually. Your gief is good stuff. Keep it up. I'll start playing more odd ball characters to go against you next time.

tell me about it. I spent a good chunk of time trying to unlearn parrying

Which is sad because I was pretty bad at parrying in SF3 anyway...

I've got 400 wins now but unfortunately I'm getting worse. I think I'm done online until I can practice my execution for awhile.

I refuse to play Ranked Matches until Capcom fixes the disconnecting exploit. There's no reason to be honest, when folks can just disconnect if they are going to lose, but if you stay around, you'll keep losing BP being honest while the disconnecters keep gaining BP by exploiting a loophole.

However, in Player Matches, I am on a winning streak! I think it's seven games right now. I start off with my boy Ken, and if I keep winning, I downgrade until I eventually pick Dan. Heh...

I beat all of the Normal Time Attacks, but I'm stuck on the last Normal Survival level. I can't even beat any of the Hard Time Attacks/Survival levels, and I get stuck on the fourth Challenge trial for any character. I can't do a jumping MK, crouching LP, EX attack, standing FK, then a spinning piledriver followed by a jumping EX attack. Nor would I ever do something so goofy and useless in a match anyway!

i am very close to just completely stopping ranked matches as a whole.

the matches are just so fucking boring 95% of the time. everyone plays so damn defensive and runs away cause they dont want to lose their precious BP points.

every fucking sagat you play plays 100% identical. start of the round they jump back and start throwing tiger fireballs and never try to make any offensive steps. guile and dhalsim are the worst though ...

and it has nothing to do with winning/losing, it is just not fun. i've started just doing player matches and searching on same/more skilled and tend to have much better matches.

anyone got any tips for playing as zangief? i am trying to figure out how to use him. but i seem so random.

i struggle with his grab moves alot. esp the super/ultras

all i play is player ranked matches. ones u started getting into ranked stuff its not as fun. even though player matches are funny.. you play a guy he only plays his main while i keep jumping around. have a little fun i say.

I haven't played in over a week. I did order one of those fake usb Saturn pads from China on Ebay. Saturn pad was my favorite so I'm hoping it's a good knockoff.
