Check this video... someone else not me... is talking about testing processor overclocks...

http://www.videojug.com/webvid...u-stress-test-programs

The list of stress testers

Prime95
Intel Burn Test
OCCT
Core Damage

the real question is... there are so many others.. which ones lol....

I'm looking for one that besides doing the stress test... it also test if the processor is actually calculating the stuff in the correct way, with out blunders like the ones I do in math everytime i try to solve a problem lol...

note added: Do having AMD Overdrive installed in your computer actually creates oc trouble in the computer even if is not open? I hear they do... but dunno if is myth or true lol

well if the math of the processor is bad... prime95 complains right?

and by the way i dunno WHY!!!!!

my PHII is unstable at 3400 with almost 1.5 volts lol.. i have it right now in 1.4875 or something like that... and temp is around 60C in load test

I think they all do that. Prime 95 changes from green to red and will say something about rounding errors. OCCT/Linpack will make a really annoying sound and stop the test when it detects errors.

My fav is Prime95's small FFT test. If the CPU is not stable, it will get an error within a minute. It's also a very low memory test so it can be run in the background without eating up resources. Leave it running at low priority while playing a few games then check on it after a few hours to see if there are any errors.

hm... I think what is really stucking me in the OC is the temperature, air cooling here... and not exactly an amazing cooling.. is kinda old and wear down heatsink lol... i got to get a new one....

If i push the clock between 3400 and 3600 it hangs with auto set of voltage.... increasing it to 1.4875 or plainly 1.5 turn the processor into a big heat factory some program show a bit before the last crash that the temp was around 64C lol!

My guess is.... this temp need to go down... but how.... living in tropics here.... lol... at least my games run well... and a few renders in 3dsmax finish up quick... aka before i wake up after leaving them all night...

Yeah that'll happen. Semiconductors often don't really follow ohm's law, but if the CPU is able to maintain constant current, voltage and power should be linear. On top of that, power and frequency should be linear as well. If you go from 1.25V to 1.50V then go from 3.0GHz to 3.5GHz, the power should increase by 40%. Of course it's never that simple so the power will probably go up a lot more than that.

hm... too bad it turns harder to keep the heat on bay...

Any recommended cooling for ocing a PHII and what voltage is recommended for that range 3400 - 3600...

Frostytech is probably the best site for cooling articles.
http://frostytech.com/articlev...?articleid=2401&page=4

The best voltage is the lowest possible. Set the CPU to the speed you're looking to hit then slowly increase the voltage until it can pass Prime95's small FFT test. After that you can try something a bit more intense like running Linpack over night.

If your system is anything like my systems, you'll find that diminishing returns hit hard when you deviate from stock voltage. For example, I can overclock an E6600 by 20% at stock voltage and it runs at 60C right now. To get an extra 100mhz out of it, the extra voltage causes the CPU to run at 70C. If you're the one paying the power bills, it's often cheaper to just buy a better processor.
