It's more like early adopter premium (EAP), yes? Not sure I'd label it as a syndrome, that could be misread as derogatory to your reader's who are enthusiasts and early adopters.
All things new carry with them a slowly decating premium scale for first units built.
One could say if you bought a PS2 before PS3 was released then you paid an early adopter premium for the PS2 as it is cheaper now that PS3 is out.

I ordered mine through another vendor. Saved myself over 60 bucks compared to newegg. Board doesn't ship till the 7th, but for 60 bucks, who cares.
