Newegg has the Striker in stock now. However, at $410 they have some serious nerve. Usually Newegg is priced very competitively, but this time they're just ridiculous.

Centurin,

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up, I have been watching and waiting on this at Newegg like a hawk for weeks now, thanks to you and your post here I just now was able to snag one.

If anyone is interested the QX6700 is in stock at Newegg too (for now at least).

It's more like early adopter premium (EAP), yes? Not sure I'd label it as a syndrome, that could be misread as derogatory to your reader's who are enthusiasts and early adopters.

All things new carry with them a slowly decating premium scale for first units built.

One could say if you bought a PS2 before PS3 was released then you paid an early adopter premium for the PS2 as it is cheaper now that PS3 is out.

I saw the P5N32-E SLI (which I affectionately call the Striker Lite) at mwave for $252 earlier today, and could not bring myself to purchase it, even though I knew the price would shoot up before the day was over (which it did). It was then I realized my heart is set on the Striker Extreme, even though I will most likely wind up paying $150 more. I need to buy a motherboard by December 10, so I really hope this becomes widely available in the next 10 days. I think this is a classic case of EAPS (early adopter pricing syndrome). Symptoms: alarming weight loss (from the wallet).

It is not meant to be derogatory. I am just as guilty as the next person about buying something before it spends more than a few seconds on the shelf. However, the majority of posts talk about the pricing issues on components (in this case the Striker) and the buyer should be informed of the MSRP (in reality most boards sell for 5~10% under this price) before deciding how much of a premium they are willing to spend for being an early adopter. Some people will spend the extra $80, some might look at it and decide it is not worth it yet. At least the information is there to make a decision.

Simple century-old well characterized and over-discussed supply side economics, not a syndrome, is all I am getting at.

Folks around here act like the enthusiast market has suddenly become beseiged by price gougers and wallet victimizers.

Whoa are us the enthusiasts who want to go back to the good old days of $100 mobo's that overclocked to 2X the spec'ed FSB's... (has that ever happened?) Who dare charge us for the opportunity? Avast it is those darn EASP's...

It is bemusing.

what is so special about this board? Most of it's features seem to be offer on boards less than half the cost?

I see a decent supply of 680i boards (albeit built by NV), does that mean ASUS buying 'cherries' from NV?

I hope by cherry picking, you mean selecting the good ones I've been pondering why that are so many OEM versions and the Asus supply was nil. I managed to snag one from newegg also on my every 4 hour "is it in stock yet" vigil and to my surprise it was. I really had no intention of getting the striker, but I justified the cost by telling myself the eSata was there, and with the game and Kaspersky that itself was close to the $100 extra over the p5n32-e. I already have Kaspersky, but at least now I can put it on my son's computer as long as its not the AOL version....

I was dead set on getting the evga board, and I had yesterday (Friday) as my deadline for the asus to come into stock or evga it was. The striker coming into supply was a sudden shock, so I hopped on it. It will be here Tuesday

I ordered mine through another vendor. Saved myself over 60 bucks compared to newegg. Board doesn't ship till the 7th, but for 60 bucks, who cares.

I guess that is my problem, my New Egg (and ZipZoomFly) vigil has only been once a day. I got a notice that they were back in stock but when I went there, alas, nada.

After my experiences with the ASUS A8N-SLI (2 RMA's, lack of customer support, FTP site going down regularly, etc. etc.) I've decided to give eVGA a chance.

The A8N-SLI was my fourth ASUS board and the previous three were rock solid. 16 versions of BIOS later, the A8N has been anything but solid.

Too bad ASUS has lost sight of their original target. Quality, Customer Satisfaction, top of the line features and Outstanding Service.

You may want to try contacting their customer service line before placing an order. This should give you some idea what to expect in the event of a problem.

I now believe they trickle these new boards out in a manner to allow their CS Rep's to absorb the increase in call volumes.

I never made a call for my first three boards.

Wow for that much no question I would get cheap board and invest that kind of money into a 8800 GTS or GTX for that matter. No board that will be used at home is worth that kind of money.

I personally used Falconsoft. But just do a Froogle search and you'll find a ton of vendors. Zipzoomfly and Newegg are the only ones selling close to $400.

Received mine today. Waiting for my PSU, should be delivered this afternoon, then the fun can begin.

Freaken heavy box though, are most mobo's these days so heavy? Haven't upgraded in a while I guess.

Has anyone been able to get one lately. It seems like the supply dried up totally a few weeks ago. Now many sites are saying they will have them again between the 18th and the 20th of Dec.

I have also learned that this board does not play well with SATA DVD burners. It seems to be optimized for STAT HDDs. Not that having an SATA DVD burner is that big a deal. The IDE ones work just fine however.
