I'm talking about the "trick" where you take a dull pencil, etc. wrapped in some moist cloth and rub the stuck pixel. I don't believe everything I read on the intarweb, so if anyone can comment on this, that would be great.

If it DOES work, what kind of force should be used? About as much as you'd use to normally write with a pen, or enough to get through 3 copies?

i've had to fix stuck pixels, and while i've heard of the rubbing method, i've never tried it for fear of permanently scratching the screen (would be much more distracting than a single stuck pixel).

i have used a similar method with success, however i never "rubbed". with the monitor off, i simply applied pressure to the area of the stuck pixel and continued while turning the monitor on. worked for me. since you're not "rubbing", you can apply moderate pressure, but use common sense.

there's are a couple programs i can think of which may help also: udfix and jscreenfix

hope that helps.

I fixed a stuck pixel on my acer 1716 by applying pressure around the area using a lint free cloth around my finger, that way there was virtually no chance of damage. Use firm but not too heavy pressure.

What I'm working on is a Gateway FPD2485W. I'm kinda picky, but I didn't want to entirely rule out going with an S-PVA before I put one through its paces. It's not so bad. If I go looking for its flaws I can find them, but if I focus on my game or whatever I'm doing, I don't notice the shortcomings so much. But this panel has one very stubborn little stickler of a pixel, and it's almost right in the middle of the panel! That's hard not to notice. I picked up a couple more stickies on a black screen test with the room dark, but I managed to rub those ones out. This one in the middle is proving very stubborn. It'll flip to black, red or green, but on anything else it's stuck on a very light shade of green.

I'll keep at it, since my gut reaction to this panel is mostly satisfactory and it's the only glaring flaw that this particular unit has. It would suck to exchange it and get a series of units that are worse.
