I got Dimension 8100, that I've upraded from a 1.4gz to a 2.8 gz CPU, I've maxed out the powersupply, and I'm stuck with that stupid RDRAM, is it time to get a another rig, if so what. I don';t neccessay want to build from the ground up, but I was thinking of switching over to an AMD product this time. Is there a way that I could combine two pc's to double my power and efficiency in a windows environment.

is your rig holding you back? if the answer is no, then the answer to your question is no

Yeah
it is
It slows up with my Autocad, Peer Guardian, and a couple of Explorer windows open, sometimes I have to disable my emule in the background in order or other programs because it locks up. I've got 640 MB of Ram

I think any changes you make with those in mind will be minimal. You COULD go up to a gig...but why buy a whole new rig when you have pretty high end right now?

"Pretty high end?" I doubt it--his 2.8GHz is probably a 400FSB. Probably time to junk that rig.

If your CPU is a 2.8C (800 MHz FSB), it may be worth your while to swap out your motherboard and RAM. If its 400 MHz, then you probably want to start looking at other options.

If you'd rather make do for longer, then adding more RAM is the short term solution.

To me it sounds like something is wrong if that much slows down your computer. I have used autocad and such on a 1.3 pentium slow as you know what 4 and it ran pretty well. You sure your computer is operating the way is should?

Just get more RAM. That's what you need for running many things at once. Usually it's the most cost effective too, but with RAMBUS you're probably gonna have to search long and hard for a deal (probably at a surplus type store online). Just use Google.
