Subwoofer Issues

Recently, my HK Subwoofer (forget the model #, have to look up later) started producing erroneous noise. At first, thought it was genuine thunder outside before it "thumped". Produced noises like someone pounding on the wall. I've used this setup for quite a while with no problems whatsoever. What could be causing this?

Really like to fix this issue.
I'm not afraid to take it apart.
Any suggestions?

interference from another cable causing a ground loop, possibly?

Have you checked all the wiring to make sure it is secure, no bare ends touching?

It only has 2 external connections. Power cable, and an RCA connection to the Receiver, both solid connections.

What volume are you listening at? You may just be overdriving it or over extending the driver (voice coil slapping).

Sounds like you have a dog and a beaver stuck in your sub.

H/K = Harman Audio = JBL (= Infinity). If it uses the same amp in the first generation of JBL PB10/12, you'll need a new sub (not repairable). Other than the possibility of an intermittent cable/jack (or even vol. pot), there's not much left it could be besides the sub's electronics.

Need more details on this problem however: does it do this sitting/not in use? only while the receiver is on or off? with the preamp cable unplugged? model #?
