planning on building/adding onto a rig. was looking for some input on power consumption and appropriate psu/wattage for the following system.

asus a8n sli
amd 64 3500 Winchester
4 x 512 Kingston value
2 x 6600gt
4 x sata hds
1 x nec 3520 dvd r/rw
1 x generic floppy

i have an extra 500w psu that i would like to use, but i couldn't tell from Asus's power requirements chart if this would be enough. thanks for any replies.

PC Power and Cooling 510 Express if you are willing to spend some money to get a good PSU. THe Antec NeoPower is another good choice with a lower price tag.

what are the specs of your existing 500W psu? Who makes it? How many A on the 12V line?

don't have the specifics on the 12v rail in front of me, but its a retail ultra x-connect 500w psu.

Did you already buy two 6600GT's?

A lot of people have been having problems with that PSU so I would suggest going with either an OCZ, Antec, PCP&C, Enermax, Fortron just to be safe

only acquired 1 6600gt so far. i've just begun to piece things together. was planning on building it in 2 phases due to budget constraints.

is the forton already eatx compliant or would it require a 20 to 24 pin adapter?

It is recommended that you do_not use a 20 to 24 pin adapter. The 20 pin connector will fit the A8N (and other boards) just fine leaving the top four pins on the board exposed (which is fine).

Buy a nice psu now and save frustration later. The Fortron is nice, and so is the Tagan 480

You are better off selling the 6600GT and getting one 6800GT, instead of running two 660GT's.

I had a hard time choosing between OCZ 420 Powerstream,Fortron Blue, Antec Neopower, ect so I decided to go with Enermax. Not only is Enermax a reliable brand but for some reason this PSU seemed more future proof then any of the other ones in the $80-$120 price range. Its got more amps on each rail then others in the same($80-$120) price range.
