1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Primarily video editing, not professional mind you, but some HD and some normal video editing. Would like to play StarCraft 2 when its released and perhaps some source games like L4D.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$1000

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

Not a fanboy, just need quality parts.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

PC is quite old, could cannabalize the cd drive. Probably need a new monitor.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Seem to be few threads involving VE setups and most are not at the price range I want to stay in.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

I prefer default speeds.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Buy parts over the next week or two.

Core i7 is very good for video editing. IDK if you can get a complete i7 system (w/monitor) for under $1000 though.

A $1000 priced video editing PC could only handle an i7 920, the 940 would eat up too much of the cost.
A fast C2Q would be a better option, given the restrictive budget.

Of course the Core i7 CPU's are better for video editing, but...

A Dell Studio XPS (WITH 23" monitor), can be had for about $1,200.

Specs: Core i7 920, 6GB DDR3, 640GB HD, Radeon 3450, 23" Dell LCD, Vista Home Premium...

No question for vid editing you should get a core i7 920 and OC it. Should be able to fit under $1000. If primarily video ediitng, you should be fine with a $225 24" lcd monitor that does 1080p. Don't need any more than that.

He needs everything.
Can you still price him out a Core i7 PC for $1k?
OS, CPU, MB, RAM, HD, Case, PS, Optical drive, Monitor, etc?

Hey chief, you didn't add in shipping costs.
Do you have codes for p00p to get free shipping at the vendors you listed?

Shipping from the three vendors for the items listed, add up to $75.12 shipped to p00p in Savannah GA.

Newegg = $13.29 (DVD burner, Memory & Video card)
SuperBiiz = $46.38 (MB, CPU, HD, Monitor, KB & mouse, OS)
Provantage = $15.45 (Case & PS)

lol... Never saw a code that worked at three different vendors before.

OP, you could even save a bit by buying some of those parts at microcenter if they have that near you. Their i7 920 is $230 right now. Though you pay sales tax then (maybe u do online as well). Also, knock off $23 (+shipping!) if you want to cannibalize your cd drive.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will probably be in the Atlanta area within the next few weeks which can give me microcenter access. Also, OS isn't an issue (forgot to mention that). I already have Vista Ultimate 64 that was given to me as a gift.

Well that just seals the deal... $1000 not including OS, you definitely need an OC'd i7 920. It will run circles around anything in video editing.

Also, if you just want a 22" monitor, microcenter has an acer for $160 after $20 mir.
