I have looked long and hard at the options out there for doing this. I sort of find it backwards to have everything in the back where it is hard to reach and see if you need to change anything, which means you have to pull out your pc from wherever its hiding every time you want to plug something in.
I am pretty sure that the ASUS iPanel is for ASUS motherboards that have a special connector for it, and there are alot of reports of it being buggy. Some other options;
FrontX has the most configurable options.
FrozenCPU has a good selection of alternatives.
Here's one that fits in a 3.5 drive bay and transfers the serial port to the front.
Electroseller has a few more options. They also have some pretty good deals on aluminum cases right now.
Koutech Makes this very nifty USB 2.0/Firewire hub that fits in a 3.5 drive bay. They also have USB only and 5.25" options.
You are not going to find that many (if any) options that plug into a motherboard connector because there is no standard connector for doing it. Well there is sort of. Intel has a dip header for front panel connections, and alot of motherboards have it, but I have yet to find anything to take advantage of it. You might be able to wire some of the FrontX stuff to plug into it, but that may be a hassle depending on what you want to do.
Before I would buy anything, I would do a search on pricewatch.com and froogle.com to make sure you are getting the lowest price (like the lian li transfer panel you can find at alot of places - I think mpcparts.com has the lowest price). If you would like to find more options in a search somewhere, use the words "transfer panel" for your search.
I sure would like to hear from others about any other alternatives that I have missed (like a front panel that has audio RCA jacks).
Case manufactures are starting to pay attention to this need by making front panel ports part of their cases (like skyhawk), but are limited in what they offer. These are pretty much your choices to choose from.
