Suikoden Series

So I have played and beaten Suikoden 1-4 and Tactics. Have not had the chance to play 5 yet but im wondering are they going to put out a new game for the PS3? I am really hoping they do and include More of the story surrounding Ted.

Suikoden Tierkis on the DS in March. No known PS3 games yet. The only JRPGs I'm aware of for the PS3 in 2009:
1. White Knight Chronicles
2. FF13 + VS (and I'll be stunned if either of them are out in 2009, honestly)
3. Cross-Edge / X-Edge (March)

Thanks Erwos. I heard a rumor the other day that scared me saying that the Suikoden series was done. I severely hope its not as its one of the best to me. In my opinion the storyline and progression is better than the Final Fantasy series.

Try out the Shin Megami Tensei games if you need a good JRPG - in particular, Persona 3 FES. I, too, have heard random mutterings that Suikoden was basically dead at this point, but never confirmation. Breath of Fire, OTOH, was basically given its death sentence by a Capcom exec recently.

I have heard of the persona series but never tried it. Im hoping the PS3 picks up alot more RPG's. As of right now Xbox360 seems to have listened to the fans of playstation and began making loads of RPG's taking away the playstation fanbase. Im not an xbox kinda guy but it is frustrating to see. Anyways I'll have to look into persona and see what it is all about. Thanks Erwos!

I know it's an old post, but yep, the 360 got me. I came in here looking for ideas for a new RPG since I finished Star Ocean.

Kind of sucks that my only PS3 option is FF7. I haven't played a single full game on my PS3 yet, and I've owned it for quite some time now.

That's a huge bummer. I loved the Breath of Fire series myself, and I would LOVE a new Suikoden game.

Still not hearing anything on a new Suikoden Game for the PS3. Have they finally Ported all of the series for download on the PSN yet? I still havent been able to grab me a PS3 yet and im waiting to see what this Slim is going to bring to the table.

There were only two Suikoden PS1 games released in the US: 1 and 2. Suikoden 2 has not been released on PSN yet.

Radiata Stories would be similar to Suikoden if you haven't tried it yet, although it's PS2. Games like this is more fun, then having amazing visuals. Take Lost Odyssey (360), amazing visuals, boring game, I quit by the 3rd disc and didn't want to finish it.

A game I would keep an eye on would be Rurona Atelier for the PS3. Same people that did the Atelier series, Ar Tonelico and Mana Khemia, except it's finally in 3D!!! I think it would be released sometime late this year, early next year.

White Knight Chronicles and Demon Souls for the PS3, if I remember correctly is due to be out this year. Perfect timing for you to get the games and the PS3 slim. So are you just basically asking for JRPG for the PS3? There's Eternal Sonata now. Folklore isn't JRPG, but might be worth a look for you, can't go wrong for $15-$20 used, and sometimes new.

Suikoden is my second Favorite RPG series after FF. (it was a close call since I dislike VIII &, X and X-2)

They have to be mad not to produce a new game for the PS3/XBOX360.
Does anyone knows how much the V sold?

I & II was very good games in PS1

III was very good on PS2 (in my opinion the best PS2 RPG), but I didn't like IV overall

(although I liked the story, I didn't like the battle system (4 characters?) and most of all, you could go the dog for a walk between movement from island to island)

V was nearly as good as III, but I am not sure since I played only for 5-6 hours (it had a slow story progression, but this was not a problem for me, the problem was the loading times especially for battles, oh the horror!)

If you have a HDD for your PS2 don't miss V.

I also liked Suikoden Tactics (for me if you exclude Disgaea series it was one of the good strategy RPGs for the system although easy)

For the Persona series, you should first try them before you buy, becauce they are a lot different from Suikoden series.

For BOF series I liked 4 (PS1) also (not better than Suikoden series imo)

I also liked Grandia series (Baboom)

The big question for me is why SEGA haven't made a sequel to the Skies of Arcadia?

Suikoden V only sold about 190k copies in Japan. I'm supposing it sold even less in the US, which might be why more popular franchises are being pursued.

Yes but I seem to remember seeing the video press conferances back in 05 or 06 when they showed the PS3 for the first time and Suikoden 6 was one of the games they talked about being developed right? I know my memory is really getting bad but that seems to be in my head.

Been a long time since I have checked and thought id resurrect this thread. I know Suikoden 1 is on the PSN store but Suikoden 2 is not and I still cannot find any news of a new Suikoden game for the PS3 in any form. Whats the deal?

Well, the deal is pretty simple, the Japanese RPG genre isn't what it used to be. There doesn't seem to be as big of a market for these games anymore, and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are much more expensive to develop games for than the PlayStation 2. Some series have migrated to the Wii or handhelds to save costs. Other just seem to be dead. You might see another handheld Suikoden but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one on the PS3 or 360.

I personally would like to see another Suikoden game. 5 was a decent enough game, but I would be rather disappointed if thats how the series ended. However Ross does make a good point. Aside from the increasing expenses of developing for the PS3/360 the market has changed a lot since 5 was released. People just don't seem to be as interested in classic turn based JRPGs like they were a few years ago and I don't think I would like them to do to Suikoden what they did to Final Fantasy.
