Sunday/Monday Staples Deals - Update

Spent most of the day scoping out the Staples stores here. North, East, & Northeastern quadrants of stores are the places to go on Sunday, if you're looking for the good items in stock. Tons of the 32MB DRAMS and the Web cams, and in most cases at least two of the 20GBer's.

Seems that at many stores they have caught on to the "buy ahead of the sale, return later" scheme. 3 of 4 mgrs. that I talked to knew exactly what was going on, and said they would not issue NEW sales receipts if I bought on Sat. and returned on Sun. or Mon. to match the price. Since the rebate forms are for Feb. 18 or 19 only, this is effectively squashing deals ahead of time. Rightly so I guess, it's getting out of hand and people are killing the opportunities, even fighting over deals. Also, at one store alone, I saw two different people returning these sales items ...

is that only a local thing, or staples has given their mgr's special training

I don't know what inspired this, but at least here in my area they seem to be aware of what's going on. Then again, it's not exactly brain surgery to figure out something is up when customers are flocking to buy certain specific items that are going on sale the next day (which any mgr. would know). There were definitely a lot of people in my area's Staples stores checking these items out ahead of time.

P.S. - The only reason I even talked to the mgrs. was to get the rebate forms, which were not on display anywhere in the store.

Today I had a Staples manager ENCOURAGE me to buy the CD today and to return it tomorrow (they only had 3 on hand)

Of course the rebate is valid 2/15-2/24 so it makes no difference if they
print a new recipt or not.

I purchased the 20G HD online. With a $30 coupon it is a better deal than the $20 cheaper it will on Sunday.

BTW, which rebate form do you have? The mgrs. did not give them to me, but only said they were 2/18-2/19. The on-line form says 2/15-2/20. Wish I had seen this form earlier, I woulda bought the drive Saturday as it would have worked with the 2/15-2/20 rebate form. Perhaps these mgrs. were just being p!ssy because they had had a run on these items all day ...

CompuUSA and officemax etc. still allow people to do the buy ahead and PM later thing as far as I know. let's hope the staples change would inspire those compusa and OM guys.

No, we are talking about Staples in this thread here. Staples has/had their sale items' rebate forms on-line.
