By the way... not all 7200 rpm hard drives are faster than 5400 rpm drives.

The motherboard looks decent. On board lan as well. 1mzh increment jumperless clock changes. On board sound. You can tweak voltage it appears. Perhaps you'd feel better with an ECS (many are happier than a puppy with 2 peters with those) you can opt for one of those (eeeew).

And who cares who made the video card (I don't). It'll run just fine under WinXP.

The keyboard is decent... hell I have one.

That case if it indeed has a 4"er up front and a rear fan... with an AMD approved PS.... does not quite make the "sh*t" list. Sorry. Even has 5 (51/4) open/front bays.

Sorry... I still say for $650 and no build time (my time is worth a lot)... this makes a decent deal on a system.
for another $50 you can get a 24x burner and a 1600xp cpu.

And t3chvest... yes...... you are an idiot.....

lol.. for posting this here of all places.

I personally.. have NEVER purchased a pre-built system ever. I have O.C.C.B. (obsessive compulsive computer behavior)

Crap.. I just ordered a SOYO Dragon Plus and a new case from Newegg....... as I type..

<< C'mon Mboy.... "around" $650?

That case alone set you back over $100.
>>

Case 114
cpu 120
mobo 105
HD 90
CD 50
ram 35
HS fan 42
SB live 35
Vid card $99

Ok, so $690

DVD was from old system, so figure another $40 for that if you want, still pretty damn good compared to that pre built job!

Not everyone can get a GeForce3 for $99
In fact, basically no one can right now.

I think the XP1600+ and the ECS board deals from myjackrabbit are actually pretty darn good.

From myjackrabbit I priced out: XP1600+, K7S5A, 24x10x40x with burnproof, 512mb ddr, 40gb 7200rpm hd, GeForce2 MX400 64mb, SB Live 5.1, 300W case, Logitech mouse/KB, crappy speakers for $758 shipped with a 1year warranty and the guy has really good feedback on EBAY.

Pricing that out myself at newegg Im getting
$670 shipped for Evercase, XP1600, Cpu fan, floppy, 40gb7200, liteon 24x, cheapest 64mb geforce2 mx400, sb live5.1, 512mb kingston ddr.
Add another $25 for kb/mouse/speakers and thats $695 to build it yourself. And with myjackrabbit you have a 1yr warranty.. I dont see how he's making much of a profit.

cyberpowerpc seems to me like theyre more expensive & definitely not a hot deal. The system configurator starts at $300 for amd systems, and then the "UPGRADE" cost for each item is more than the cost to get the item from newegg by itself!

You have to also figure that monitor in there too. BUT, the case is now $100, the hard drive (IIRC) for $50 and the HSF, you can go stock as you aren't OCing a pre-built system.

I dont have to figure in the monitor as I had it well before I built this system and the pre built computer in the original post for $530 and change didnt have a monitor with it. If you have to, throw in the monitor for the $135 I paid for it taxed and shipped. Comparing apples to apples with just systems, my system with MUCH better components built by me didnt cost more then 100-150 more then the orignal poster's system.

Ok Mboy... now throw in $80 or so for a 24x burner....

And if you purchased that case .... it does not come with the PS you named.. so I spose you should add another 50 or more for the PS?

This deal gets better all the time...lol.

<< By the way... not all 7200 rpm hard drives are faster than 5400 rpm drives. >>

Why still use such non-sense argument?
If you're buying a new hd today, it's either a present model 5400rpm or a present model 7200rpm, there is no way for a 7200rpm hd not faster than a same series 5400rpm. Unless you're buying an aged model 7200rpm from overstock sellers, auction sites, that could be slower than a decent 5400rpm.

Newegg:
Maxtor D540X 40GB $73+10 sh,
D740X 40GB $87+10 sh,
just $14 difference.

How do you figure? The cd I have listed in my price is a 16x burner and the price was already factored in ( go re read my original post). The case comes with an enermax 330W PS for $114 SHIPPED from New Egg. How do u figure otherwise? What r u going to come back with now? That I have to add $480 because I didnt factor in my broadband access into the price of the computer?
You are just pissed I built a nice system for under $700 and you didnt (pays to loiter in the Hot deals forum)

Back in September I ordered a computer from someone (EPC Solutions, I think) on ebay and for $450 plus $50 shipping I got:

PCCHIPS 817LMR (has built it lan and sound, modem on riser)
1400 Athlon
256 mb DDR Micron RAM
40 GB ATA100 7200 HD (Diamondmax 60 model)
52X CD
TNT2 video card
Thermoengine hsf with delta fan (loud)
Decent 2 fan case with 300w L&C psu.

I have since upgraded it with a better hsf, a cd burner, a gts-v video card and sb live sound card.
I have no complaints, it works well, very fast and stable but no OC ability. I could not bundle up a kit for less at the time. For folks who don't want to assemble their computer, and if it is a reputable dealer, these are decent computers.

Kinda funny how every time mboy responds, the price of his super cheap dream system edges higher.

"I had a cpu laying around in the closet, and I found a monitor in the backyard, so of course I didn't include those prices...."

How do you figure MOnty? Show me where I deviated from my Original "in the $650 range".
By trying to tell me I didnt include my monitor in the price (wasnt in the original posters setup), then telling me I paid more for a burner (which I included in my price) and then telling me to add another $50 to the price of my case for the PSU which already came with the case? That makes 2 of you that can't read.
Where is your rig Montey? Too embarassed to show off that 266 huh>?

The bottom line is, with a little shopping and some basic computer building skills, you can build yourself a nicer sstem for less then you have to pay for someone else!

mboy - Sorry they are right, your price DOES go up with each post.

Figure this. You originally said "$650"

Then your next post said
___________

"Ok, so $690

DVD was from old system, so figure another $40 for that if you want, still pretty damn good compared to that pre built job!"
___________

Considering he's getting a CDRW, which would cost effectively what your CD-Rom and DVD cost together (about $80-90), you are pushing $730. Right?

Also noted that you did not include a floppy drive (another $10-15), Speakers (another $40, cause i'm assuming they are cheap), and a Keyboard or Mouse (which can run around $30, low end, but this stuff is Logitec, so its not too cheap). So right there you're looking at tacking on another $80 - $50, which puts your computer to over $800. So now your computer is $260 over his original $539.00 price!

Also should we talk about case fans? What about cables? What about the fact that he has a warranty. What about the fact that your equipment is also used and not retail?

While the deal isn't the best in the world, it's a decent deal for someone who doesnt need totally high end stuff and can get away with a good computer fairly cheap. Quit acting like your computer is all that (cause in truth its mid range, nothing great). This is nice especially if he doesnt have the time or knowledge to build is own.

-=EDIT=-
Silly me, i forgot to notice you have no NIC card (and that mobo you have doesnt have one). So add another $10-$15 for a NIC card cause he has one on his deal

King that site has some really good deals (I didn't see any on cyberpowerpc though ). I don't know of any of these good parts sites, would anyone mind PM'ing or e-mailing me a list of sites you know? 256 DDR2100 for $38 on newegg? Wowza... I'm glad some people agree that myjackrabbit is a decent deal. However since I've been hanging around the forums a little longer I'm beginning to see how you guys get your comps so cheap Too bad I don't have enough time or money to wait for a rebate check (NOOO I want the 100 gig for $120 after MIR!), or enough knowledge to start a comp from scratch. I'm a newb , more into programming, not hardware.

Edit>>> And for the last time ::cough:: UpChuck ::cough::, I'm not affiliated with myjackrabbit and aren't spamming :|

I'm sorry, but I gotta say you guys aren't making a very good argument for this guys deal being bad. He didn't pick the best parts, but with the small upgrades suggested here to their packages, he can have a nice system for less than $100 more than what you guys are finding the same parts for.

If he's not into building his own stuff, or doesn't have a ton of technical knowledge, that $100 to have it built and come with a 1 yr warranty is certainly worth it, IMHO.

this is not dell, warranty from small computer seller is worthless, unless you're living close to the seller so that you can bring the whole system to them, you've to spend a lot on shipping a system, and they may want you to pay the return shipping too.

IMHO, for people that are not computer experts, they should buy from dell or local computer stores - they have such budget system too, it could cost $100 more than such deal from online, but $100 more for local warranty is certainly worth it.

If I could afford a Dell I would've very well be a member of this forum or looking for cheap systems online. No I don't live near the guy so the warranty isn't too much of a perk, however to buy that system from dell would be about 1k, or somewhere around there. Even if a part magically breaks, I could completely replace it and still have the system cost less than the Dell (say the cpu breaks; a new XP 1700 is $140... 540+140 is certainly less than 1000 ).

edit >> corrected grammar hehe

In many areas, you have to ship stuff to Dell anyway, unless you want to wait like 2 weeks for a technician who serves like three counties to come to your areas. Plus, you're getting all standard parts you can change. I usually recommend Dell to people who are gonna buy a name brand machine too though, I was just assuming he wanted a standard parts system since he was looking for it on the net.
