i hate hte self checkout. its always full with the one person with a full cart and has no fricken clue what they are sopposed to do.

Go to ones that have multiple self-checkouts then...the retard lane and the one for everyone else.

I've always wanted to see express lines implemented like this: Each item over the limit raises your bill by an additional 10%. For example, if you are 3 items over, your bill is multiplied by 1.3 after adding up all the charges. Also, multiple payments per person are not allowed without penalty. Simply having one order of 10 items and a second order of 3 items doesn't get around the penalty. I hate it when people take 30 items through the 10 item lane and ask for 3 bills.

That way, the lines remain fast for those of us who only have a few items. And if you really need more items fast, you can get it if you pony up a bit more cash. Everyone wins.

I'll fling a wad of crumpled up bills on the ground and just walk out of the store. I'm not waiting in your fancy "line" to buy my fancy "spray-on cheese".

Wait til you run into the express lane nazi who counts your items as you roll up to checkout, then tells you to move to the proper line. This actually happened to me once at a Safeway I had done business with for years.

I said ok, but this is one customer this store will never see again. So far I've kept my promise and not gone back. Now since I moved, I know I will never be back there.

just the normal. idiots trying to switch tags, put something INSIDE something else and idiots that have there CC or check denied.

wich makes me wonder about those self checkouts. there was many times when people would switch tags. one lady had a cart full of clothes. she took the tag off cheap clothes ($5) and put it on (where it should be $9 an item). if you actually pay attention its easy to see.

but wonder how many people rip off the self checkout lines.

What do they consider ten items anyway? Does that include duplicates? For example, if you only are buying 12 bottles of coke...does that count as 12? It's not like they need to scan it 12 times (unless they're stupid).

The cashiers don't count the number, believe me.

I was one for 3 years before college.

Ten Items or FEWER.

Those signs always annoy me.

actually they may have to Scan all 12. a friend of mine works for walmart (still ..sheesh) as a cashier.

she said that they have to scan all items. even duplicates. Used to be people would memorize the numbers for Pepsi, coke etc and just type it in. but they are now supposed to scan it.

hmm i guess it varies, whenever i have multiple boxes of stuff like water or something, they just scan one and i leave the rest in the cart.

at Walmart - I only put one of like 8 (gallon) waters on the belt for them to scan... then I tell them I have a total of 8... they push a single button to increment it. Done plenty of times with no hassle.

At the grocery store I work at (part time through college) for some reason we can ring in multiples of almost everything except 2 liter bottles. Gallons, 12 packs etc can just use a multiplier but the 2 liter voids it self. During party season this sucks cause when people buy like 50 bottles, all of them have to be scanned. Though if its easy price (99/1.00) I'll just ring it in as one item.

self-checkout sucks
they check the weight of the stuff in the bags and sometimes the measuring is off, and it can be a real pain in the ass

dude, you just lift the bag a little bit to have the machine register a lower weight!

If I only had a few extra items I would use the express lane, no problem.
Also, I hate the self checkout line too.

Yes. I used to be a big stickler for the "number of items" rule, but most of the time the cashiers will wave me over if they see I only have a small amount of items.

I hit up the express lane if I got less than 20 items, if they complain I make my girlfriend pay half (with my money) and I pay the other half, takes them longer to get the line moving this way.

I hate going to walmart, getting 20 things (i.e. 4 lunchmeats, 10 baking potatoes, and other odds and ends) and having to wait in a giant line.

The other thing I hate is the Giant by me, has self check out lines, they finally put in two expres self check out lines, it is bad enough people can't use them, but then using them with their monthly food stamps is enough to make one scream.
