Wait til you run into the express lane nazi who counts your items as you roll up to checkout, then tells you to move to the proper line. This actually happened to me once at a Safeway I had done business with for years.
I said ok, but this is one customer this store will never see again. So far I've kept my promise and not gone back. Now since I moved, I know I will never be back there.

What do they consider ten items anyway? Does that include duplicates? For example, if you only are buying 12 bottles of coke...does that count as 12? It's not like they need to scan it 12 times (unless they're stupid).

actually they may have to Scan all 12. a friend of mine works for walmart (still ..sheesh) as a cashier.
she said that they have to scan all items. even duplicates. Used to be people would memorize the numbers for Pepsi, coke etc and just type it in. but they are now supposed to scan it.

Is self checkout an option? If not then yes.
self-checkout sucks
they check the weight of the stuff in the bags and sometimes the measuring is off, and it can be a real pain in the ass
