sure it tastes good, but it's not good for you. don't blame Supersize Me guy for that.

no one is blaming the supersize me guy for mcdonald's food being bad for you.

what he should be tarred and feathered for is taking it to a fallacious extreme

Why? Granted he took an extreme stance (fast food 3 meals a day / 30 days) but he did it to show people how awful it is for you. In the movie you see how bad all this crap is for you and how eating enough of it does do some damage to your body.

no, he didn't. you could eat 5000 calories of brocolli a day and it would still do the same thing to you.

Eating too much of anything is bad for your health, but eating 5000 calories of brocolli would probably be healthier for your body than the equivellent in McDonalds taking into consideration fat and cholesterol content.

I'll never understand how people can be so retarded about food and health. Eat balanced meals, take food in moderation and get a little bit of exercise. If you want to have some McDonalds, fine. It's not going to hurt you to have it every once and a while. Just be sure to keep it in moderation.

I dont think anyone could eat 5000 calories of broccoli per day. As a matter of fact I have a huge bag of frozen broccoli in my Freezer right now.
4 pound bag and it is big. 25 calories per serving. 21 servings per bag. 1 cup per serving. That means 131.25 calories per pound of broccoli. You would have to eat 38 pounds of broccoli per day to equal 5,000 calories. LOL want some soy sauce with that?

owned on a technicality

My wife and I stopped into McD's today for lunch, something we haven't done in about a year and something I thought I wouldn't be doing so soon having just seen Supersize me...

I was surprised to see their menu was cut back so much, no more double cheeseburger meal, no more four or six piece nuggets, no more chicken fajitas...

Personally I thought supersize me was a suckass movie mainly because his girlfriend was a militant vegan and if there is one thing I abhor it is vegans....didn't think it was overly realistic either eating that much fast food every day, but I guess anything is possible.

Just bummed to see the menu decimated like that, there was barely anything there I would order and I assume things will get worse....oh well guess I will just stick to Panera however my wife who constantly diets says that this and others like it aren't much better if at all for you than McD's or BK.

You can take my fries

You can take my doublecheeseburgers

did the change the nuggets? i don't think they did. i think all they did was put 'made with white meat' on the package.

I'll never understand vegetarians. They all claim that the diet is totally healthy and I don't think it is.

First, we are omnivores. Genetically engineered to consume meat.

Second, certain vitimins that our body requires comes from meat. Sure it's possible to get most (if not all) of the same vitimins from plants/vegetables, but the amount you get is far lower than what you get from meat so you would have to eat an unhealthy amount of the plant/vegtable to get the same amount of vitimin.

Third, to get around this, people often resort to taking supplements. Well, you may be taking the vitimins into your body, but most of the vitimin will come right back out of your body. The meat not only contains the vitimins you need, but also contains the enzymes required to break down the vitimin so the body can absorb it. Supplements lack these enzymes so you have to rely on what is currently in your system and it probably isn't enough to break down the whole pill.

in all fairness mcdonald's does offer salads, and you can get a plain burger without all the condiments and stuff. you can order skim milk or water as well. their grilled chicken isn't that bad. but really, that stuff represents a small portion of the food sold there. and i only think i've seen each advertised once. whenever you see a mcdonald's commercial, everyone is always eating sandburgers and fries.

so are they misleading people? possibly. but it's called 'junk food' for a reason. no coincidence that its mostly mouth breathers lining up at the trough.

the thing is that McDonalds is a fast food restaurant

the biggest point of a fast food restaurant is in the name itself: fast and convenient, all at a reasonable price

My friends and I enjoy it because we can just drop in, get a meal and get out.

I cant really even think of any McDonalds advertisements try to represent it as anything else.

Their old advertisement slogan that I remember most is "Have you had your break today?"

Usually people dont see a break as a thing to live off of.

First off, it's "vitamins." A lot of vegans and vegetarians do so because of religious reasons. Others do so because they dont agree with the way the meat industry raises and slaughters the animals.

I think that is more their stomachs not being use to the food rather than them being weak...

Alright, there are two groups of vegetarians. The ones who do it because of religious reasons and protest, and there are the ones who think it's healthy.

Neither group is wrong for what they do, but anyone that thinks it is a healthier lifestyle than a meat eating lifestyle is wrong.

I actually know how to spell vitamin... brain fart I guess

logically getting meat in your diet along with vegetables would be more beneficial than vegetables alone

The movie...and I mean movie...was a fscking joke.

Eating 5,000 calories a day when your body only burns 2,000 IS GOING TO MAKE YOU FAT. I don't care what food group or restaurant you get it from.

It's as simple as that. This was nothing more than a slam at an easy target to make a quick buck.

I think the shock was more from the impact on his body that exceed the expectation of the doctors.

If you don't get the proper amount of vitamins into your system, you will not be healthy. You cannot get the proper amounts of vitamins through plants/vegetables without eating an unhealthy amount of them. If you take a vitamin pill to get around this, you sh!t most of it out because your body lacks a sufficient amount of the specific enzymes that are required to break the pill down so your body can absord them. Therefore, you don't get the proper amount of vitamins and you are not healthy.

You don't have to be an expert to understand this easy concept. If you want detailed proof, go take some biochemistry courses at your local university.

^^^^^^This is the guy in supersize me that ate 20k big macs :/

Some Americans are just ridiculous, I don't know how they grow up without a basic education and a slight awareness of the people and world around them...but some just don't. Its true already! MOST OF US EAT TOO MUCH! And when your favorite foods come from fast food restaurants that equates to a bad combination.

The man who made this movie did not go out of his way to eat until he would puke out his minivan's window - and it wasn't because he wasn't used to eating meat either! A freakin supersized meal is A LOT of food people, im a 24 year old male, 6'1" tall and I doubt I could finish one of their doublemeat & cheese whatevers with supersized sides. Just as the woman in the movie who was from France complained about the size of softdrinks over here. Its ridiculous!

After watching this movie, I just do not see how overweight people who eat diets like this...live! Seems like they should be dropping over like flies, goes to show the human body can take a lot of neglect.

yea i've eaten the supersize on a few occasions..mostly if i've been hiking all day or biking or whatever with no decent meals...end with lazy feast. even starving ..can barely down it all. not that its different from other restaurants. ever been to a diner where u get a plate full of fries with your burger or whatever thats so big u can't finish it? no different, just costs 2-3x as much and comes on a nicer plate.

u know.. if u drink enough water u will die? i kid u not.

i'd like to see him make a movie about that.

Actually that was one of the scenes which I thought was totally staged....either that or he was so used to his hippy vegan girlfriends cooking that any amount of meat of filling meal would have made him vomit....heck in college I ate a decent amount of fast food when drunk and never came to the point of vomiting...well unless due to the alcohol...Supersize meals sure are large, but IMHO not that large or at least not in the capacity which cause him to get sick.

With the previous comments on vegans, I took a health course in college (not enough to make me an expert) but the professor was pretty adamant about saying that vegetarians and strict vegans led the most unhealthy lifestyle out of anyone...they had to rely on suppliments, many of which are not regulated by the FDA....he was a strong proponent of having a balanced diet which included meats and fish.

you have shown no evidence that a vegetarian diet lacks vitamins. you have just stated your opinion, that is all.

Platinum, do yourself a favor if you are truly interested and take a nutrition course..vegetarians miss out on key vitamins, minerals and other nutrients which are only available through meat products thus they need to use suppliments to make up for this deficiency.

bozack.

i grew up a vegetarian. was a vegan for about 8 yrs of my life. i never took supplements. other than the fact that i am slightly overweight due to lack of exercise at the moment, i've always been in good health.

if what you saw were true, i wouldn't have the health i have now.

my brother and sister were also raised veggies and they too are also healthy.

btw, i have taken nutrition courses. many of them.
