Are these sound system good? Never heard of SVS, only Bose, anyways im not that much into sound system but if its cheap and good i'll take em. BTW are these for cars or for home? Never seen cylinder subwoofers.

These are home subwoofers that are often mimicked. I have not heard one firsthand, but they get great reviews.

These are for home. Over on the Home Theater Forum (www.hometheaterforum.com), these things are the subs to get. From what I've read, they're amazing.

svs is new to the game, but theyre pretty good. I suggest you listen to them/try them in your room before buying.

Actually, the SVS are imitations of the Hsu Research subs (www.hsuresearch.com),
which themselves have won numerous awards and are highly regarded by audiophiles.
Check out www.audioreview.com for user reviews. I had the Hsu and can recommend
them confidently. When I looked at SVS, they seemed more expensive than Hsu. With
this SVS sale, maybe they're more comparable...but I can't figure out what the
prices are from the SVS website. It's not clear, whereas the Hsu website is very
clear about their prices.

One caveat: this is real audiophile gear...I myself wouldn't think about getting
one unless I wanted to plunk down several thousand overall for a sound system.
Is this a hot deal for anyone??

I would agree SVS are Hsu rip-offs. They do perform well but they are not the holy grail of subwoofers. If you can get a good deal on these go for it but their reguar prices are definitely more expensive than compararble Hsu research products.

Actually SVS is not a rip-off of anyone. The guys who run SVS started off buidling do it yourself subs in the online forums and were so successful at it that they eventually decided to start a company doing it. The cylinderical subwoofer, aka "sono-tube" is very popular among hobbyists because it is very efficient and very easy simple to make. Hsu is no more an owner of that design than SVS is.

That said, SVS is good stuff. I've got 3 of their subs myself.
