Switching from MSN to LAN

OK, here at school in the dorms we got out network up today. I'm fine. But i have 2 friends that use (used) msn at home, now we are not able to get it to work with jsut a regular lan connection. We tried for about 1/2 on one machine, nothing, i would think i would be able to figure it out.

Then we realize that we are having the same prob again on the orther machine.

On both machines we've been able to brows the netowkr and thats all fine. But gettting it to work with the internet is not working. Any help?




on a side note: MSN sucks soooooo much, i can forgive people on AOL but for goodness sakes MSN......

MSN works very well for what it does. Slagging it off because you can't make it work is pointless.

Your question doesn't actually make sense. I take it your dorms are cabled with cat-5 and connect to the internet through some kind of proxy server. MSN needs certain ports to be open in the proxy/firewall to allow data to flow. If your administrator has blocked those ports, it won't work. ICQ, IRC, AIM, any of the others will experience similar problems.

If youve clicked setup...at the prompt to install new modem..click cancel...Then your asked if you want to set up a connection through a LAN..so you would pick yes....if the connection is made well..your on...

If not your SOL.
