OK, now all temp, fan and voltage sensors are ignored in the BIOS. We'll see how it goes.

If we keep trouble-shooting this way, eventually I'll suggest you just unplug it, and then it won't turn itself off anymore.

So far so good. It's still on. If it stays on 24 hours, I'll start turning sensors back on 1 by 1 to see which one is the culprit.

I'll withhold the celebrating until tomorrow, though. But thanks so far for the help

Well, it's still up and running. I think this may have been the ticket. I'll report back every few hours.

It's still up and running. I think we have it!

Tomorrow I'll turn on sensors 1 by 1 to see which one is bad.

Well, it's 7:00am and the system is still up and running. Later today I'll turn on the all the voltage sensors (I suspect those least) and see what happens.

Thanks for your ideas, everyone!

Especially you, 3chordcharlie. Your last idea saved the day!

And I didn't even have to make you unplug it

Hopefully you can narrow it down to one sensor - but you have a good psu, and P4s are pretty good at not frying themselves, so if you have to leave them all off, it likely isn't the end of the world.

Here it is some three hours later, and it's still running with the voltage sensors turned on. I had a feeling it was either the fan or temp sensors, and it looks like I was right. Later today I'll turn on the fan sensors and see what happens.

Well, it's still going. I guess I'll try turning on all the fan sensors now.

Yep. It's stable as a rock, as it always has been. The problem is, it would just shut itself down when idle.

It's a faulty sensor. I'm betting a temp sensor spikes for some reason when idle and causes the shutdown. To be sure I fisrt tested the voltage sensors, and now I am testing the fan snesors.

We'll see in a few hours.

Well, all sensors are on except temp and it ran overnight. Today I'll turn on one of the temp sensors and see what happens.

Hey, now I actually hope it does turn off so you can be pretty sure that's what it was!

You know, with the way my luck goes I'll get both temp sensors turned on and it will run fine.

That'll leave me scratching my head for the rest of my freakin' life!

I turned on the mobo temp sensor yesterday and it's still going strong.

I'll try the CPU sensor soon here (last one, must be it). I've just been busy.

Well, the problems are back, and all the sensors are turned off. So it wasn't them after all.

I have reseated everything to no avail.

WTF could it be???
