System won't power on

Hi all,

I'm having an odd problem with my system.

I've had this system for a couple months now and it's been working fine. It's a Gigabyte K8NS, Athlon 64, 520W system.

All of a sudden today it won't power on. There have been no hardware changes or anything that I can think of that cause this.

I've tried to reset the cmos jumper. No luck.

All three lights on the keyboard - num lock, scroll lock, and caps lock are on even though the system will not power on. Does anyone know what this means?

What could have happened?

Worst case scenario cpu is dead. But, I would unplug and plug back in the power wires that go into the mobo (both).

Or try reseting all of the hardware.....

Yes, and if it has if you have a warranty have them replace. To check if its bad, take it out of the case and just plug it into the wall, if the fans inside the PSU are going then its not dead.

Thank you for the response Quintox.

I diconnected the PSU from everything, plugged it in, and no fans turned on. (it has two)

So this means it's dead 100%?

Also - is there any way it dieing damaged any of my other hardware?

I think you have to jumper the main power cable before the psu will power up, with nothing else on it Jumper between the green wire and a black.

I'd leave it all hooked up and probe, w/a meter, an unused power cable for 12 and 5 volt readings.

Jumper it by bending a paper clip into a U shape and stick one into the green wire and the other into any black wire.
