Should I upgrade to it and overclock? Will it be much of a performance increase going from a 900 Duron? Also what is the commond speed a blue core T-Bird will hit?

BTW do they run at 133FSB or 100FSB? Also what default voltage?

Or should I wait a while and just buy a T-Bird 1.2?

I wouldn't upgrade to a 900 T-bird from a 900 Duron. You will get nearly zero performance increase. Just keep the Duron and overclock it. I bet you could get almost 1.1ghz out of it.

900mhz T-birds run at 100mhz FSB.

I wouldn't suggest a 900 Duron to 900 Athlon upgrade at all. The performance increase would be negligible. The Athlon is on a 100 FSB. I would wait and pick up that T-bird 1.2 later.

Same response here. Don't do it. You'll be disappointed. If you're looking for a performance increase, have you looked at the rest of your rig? How much ram do you have? HD speed? Videocard?

The Duron
Visiontek Geforce 2 64mb GTS
128mb PC133 Micron(just bought 256mb Mushkin PC133 CAS3)
My HD is 13gig 5400 RPM ATA66(I could use a upgrade on this but see no point since I don't have cable and I only use half of the space on it)

I am getting cable real soon but untill then the 7200RPM ATA100 drives can wait. If I bought another drive just like mine and ran them raid how would that perform?

<< Will a older rev Asus A7V support a 1.2gig T-Bird? >>

Nope... Asus A7V only supports T-Bird's up to 1Ghz...

ooh....there is your problem. it is the HD. getting a faster CPU wont change how your overall system speed (well...not too much). it is mainly the HD. like, with an ATA100(or even 66) HD and 7200rpm, if u double click my computer after a reboot...it should pop up almost instantly. with that 5400, u gotta wait and wait...in fact you will probably see the little flashlight.

I think it has been said that you should stick with the Duron900 and upgrade something else on your system. Since u have a nice vid card...go with the HD purchase. You can get a 40 gig IBM 60GXP for like ~$130 at hypermicro.com. they got a ~6.7 rating on resellerratings...AND they sell u a retail HD made BY IBM...not FOR.

or...like u mentioned...u could RAID two 5400 RPM drives. my friend said he gets roughly the same speed as one ATA100 drive...(although someone might wanna check me)

Does the HD really make that much difference? Will it load games, apps, ect alot faster by just going 7200RPM ATA100?

BTW I thought with the new BIOS update it was able to support 1.2GHZ? My multiple switches goes up to 12.5

Yes, you can put a 1.2 on that board. There are two types of 1.2 chips, the ones that run at 100 FSB and the ones that are 133 FSB. Yes that board does have multipliers that high too. You, of course, will need the 100 FSB variety of the 1.2.

On a side note, the 900 mhz Tbirds do run stock at 100 fsb, but if you have a KT133a mobo (which you don't, but I'm sure you know this stuff anyway) you can run the 900 at 7 x 133 and it'll run at 933 which probably all 900's will do. So the 900 mhz tbirds are 100fsb stock, but are very capable of doing 133 fsb.

What kinda difference would I see by getting a new mobo that supports the T-birds at 133FSB and is at 266FSB?

that isnt true, a7v's can go higher than 1ghz, if you raise muiltiplier and fsb.
