We're a measly 94 million blocks behind /. TA is cracking at 167% of /.'s rate. And we're growing like nobody's business!

Anybody done the math on this?

Let me see if I can do this right.

Assuming we average 1.5 million, and /. does 0.85 million, the difference between the two teams will shrink by 0.65 million a day. With a 94 million block difference, it should take 145 days to pass /.

I'm already old and decrepit, so PLEASE recruit and assimilate so that I might live to see the day that we are number one.

Mycroft will probably drop off again after a month or two (I hope), and we'll gain an extra 100K/day when that happens.

Let's help things along... gaining a million a day on /. sure sounds nice.

you guys are computing that 145 days at a linear rate, you need to take into account the percentage that our team grows each day, if i can remember my calculus ill try to figure this out, but ill need to collect a lot of stats to go on. I'll be back in a few days with my results

I agree with what Russ said. Us old geezers want to see TA Trash the /., so all of us need to assimilate more.

To practice what I preach, I am working on the new CIO to upgrade our P200mhz work herd, and I'm working on a proposal for 2 new servers, dual Xeon 700 (they will run 24x7), as well as several hi-end workstations.

ViRGE,
/. may have Mycroft, but we have the Phantom Flusher!

The good news is that my herd is in the process of being upgraded. The bad news is that about 1/3 is down due to the fact they're being upgraded. The worse news is that it's going to stay that way for a while due to a shipping foulup by our vendor. I'm "only" turning in ~10K/day for the next few weeks.

On a significantly brighter note, I have 40 PIII/733's waiting to come online once this all gets sorted out.

Who the hell is the Phantom Flusher? I've heard that name so many times, but don't know what he/she/it is.

SSP,

PhF is a mysterious benefactor (or trojan) that's been flushing to about 15 to 20 members accounts since approximately the first week in June.

It's just a dumping team... and one of their members was #1 on DNET for the day with 769,566 blocks. But we still defeated their dump!

Since Mycroft was mentioned in this thread, I'll relay information from him. Mycroft's latest surge was coming from a Beowulf setup for his company using 256 processors, all PIII-550's. He added that it would probably be his last day (7/12) of cracking with these babies.

You know what that means... we gain on /. even faster!

Next time Mycroft comes back online, why doesn't he switch to a real team??

Well, I've recruited all I can that's around me - my own P2-400 and a non-MMX P200 used by the rest of my family (it's installed as a service on that machine - no one knows it's running). I wish I could do more, but I've got limited resources here. But maybe when I get that 486/100 Linux box assembled as a firewall I'll have it cracking in its spare cycles.

So here's my list of tips for those cracking on their personal boxen (not 100% serious, I'm just trying to be funny) to maximize keyrate:

1) If you must play games, play something simple - I recommend Start->Programs->Accessories->Games->Minesweeper.

2) Play your MP3s using Winamp, quarter quality. Sacrifice your sound quality for the benefit of TA!

3) Run Linux. I'm not some open source zealot, but I've noticed that my keyrate under Linux is about 10% higher than in Windows.

4) Get out of the house. Go for a walk. What are you doing here, wasting cycles on a fickin' web browser? Get lost!
