SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab 2 WiFi 7-inch w/ free 16 GB micro SD card or Nexus 7 32 GB?

The Samsung had Ice Cream 4.0 while the Nexus, which I have already ordered (but hasn't shipped) for $225 total after CB from Discover with a $25 credit at J&R with which I plan to buy a travel cover has 4.1.

Price at this difference is not my main concern.

What I want to know from you collected wiser and more knowledgeable heads is which will give me the better experience feature wise.

The Nexus has 4.1 out of the box. I assume I can easily upgrade the Samsung to 4.1, yes?

The Samsung is native 8GB, but has the SD slot. I'd probably end up purchasing a 32 GB one, but can live with the free 16 GB one for now. Is there a noticeable bus constriction speed hit accessing the memory from the SD slot?

The Samsung had a rear facing camera but the Nexus does not. This does appeal to me.

Other than that, what differences/features I don't know about would sway me to one or the other?

I'm old, I'm tired, thinking is hard and scares me. Help!

I'm debating the exact same questions. There is no question that the Nexus is a better tablet. It has a far superior processor (quad core vs. dual core, IIRC), screen (1280 x 800 vs. 1024 x 600), and has the 4.2 upgrade. Samsung also has a proprietary "TouchWiz" front end on their Android load but I believe it can be removed.

The Samsung, on the other hand, does have some expandability but my understanding is that you cannot install applications on the SD card -- you can only install media files. With only 8 GB for applications (not sure how much of that is used out of the box), that may be the decision maker for me.

BTW, Wal Mart has refurbs of the Samsung for $145 and that's really the only thing causing me to debate it at the moment.

Hmmm, yeah, better screen resolution and more capable processor plus latest OS out of the box are compelling for the Nexus. I just wish it had a rear facing camera, as I don't carry a smart phone and don't want to carry a small point and shoot AND a tablet.

That Wally World refurb price is intriguing, but I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish. I want something I'll be happy with from the get go. That's worth a few extra sheckels.

Anyone have any real life experience trying to use the low rez, front facing camera on the Nexus turned around and pointed at that large breasted girl sitting nearby in Starbucks?

I tried the Galaxy Tab and actually thought it was slow. Maybe it was just the one I was using, but it convinced me to leave the store after I thought that's what I wanted.

Tales of Woe and Redemption Dept:

Been a busy bee, didn't get the time to sit down and fire up my new Nexus until this morning . . .

Only to find it was, ummmm, pre-owned! D:

In My Library there was already the movie Ice Age , BBC Planet Earth, the book Treasure Island, and subs to Conde Nast Traveler and House Beautiful.

I can assure you all that my My Library (my, my!) would be highly unlikely to contain House Beautiful magazine. House Acceptable maybe, but not House Beautiful plus albums on the Google playlist including Elvis Inspirational.

Riiiiiight!

So, off to complain to J&R was I, your intrepid ferengi shopper. After a long back and forth with Michelle the CSR and then her supervisor Jim Quinlan, I am returning this unit free of charge for a brand new one plus getting an additional $25 refund to my CC, plus getting to keep the $25 J&R GC that my original purchase had (barely) qualified for.

Did I mention the 10% combined cash back from my Discover card (5% plus 5% for going through ShopDiscover.)

My original offer was to keep the unit and get a $75 refund (never thought I would get this, was shooting for $50 or $25 back.) They countered with a scintillating, "I return it for a new one, no refund, but, HEY, they pay the return shipping."

My response was that, hurf burf, there must be a consequence for their illegal act!

They kept stonewalling me with the same non-offer but I won out in the end because . . .

I rule.

Shhhhhh. I got an extra $25 off, so . . .

Now that you've learned the truth, I think it isn't very nice of you to keep that money.

If they did you wrong, you have every right to claim your customer rights, but what you are doing now is considered stealing.

I loathe those disrespectful and unprofessional CSR reps as much as anyone else, but I respect those that actually work with you to help make things right.

I think you should call them and set things straight.
