Teach me hipster

Gather for me information sufficient to bring me to an understanding of "hipster". What is a "hipster". OK, all BS aside, this is a new term for me and I don't remember hearing this crap when I was younger. So show me pictures, offer descriptions, describe personality traits, anything you can do to really explain to, and show me what damn hipster is.

I can't find the picture, but one of the meme sites had a collage dozens of photos of the emo-girl look (big straight black hair, black eyeliner, pale skin, lip ring) with the caption "always remember that you're unique...just like everyone else". It was the same back in high school, like with the goths...they all end up looking the same, despite trying to look different from everybody else

Then there are the groups that try to conform...the preppies with collared shirts, the cheerleaders with mall-shop clothes, etc., which makes the groups that try to be non-conformist like the alternative groups end up conforming because they all look the same even funnier :thumbsup:

I guess Gen ex folks who never fit in to any of the social niches in their high school were what started or became hipsterdom.

I know a kid with one of those bikes. I did ask him about it, but he wasn't a douche. I suspect its because I am friends with his dad. He said it was the "in" thing now. I told him it looked dangerous as hell. He agreed, but said you are hardcore if you ride one.
He let me take it for a spin down the street. I didn't go very fast, because after all, this was a suicide machine. It had no hand brakes, a fixed gear and the pedals were locked in rotation with the wheel, so no free wheel spinning at all. If you were moving forward, the pedals were spinning one way. If you rolled backward, they spun the other way. If you went too fast, you either muscled down on the pedals to slow down, or you take your feet off and abandon ship. I had a hard time stopping after going like 10mph. These people are idiots.

I'm not sure about the no showering thing, but it seems like showering but not using any soap or shampoo is a thing with them. Or maybe that's just IT people. I keep getting them confused.
