I think Soni the installation king should be the official tester for this since he needs it more than any of us.

Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated. The future versions, yes there will be more additions, will have expanded functionality, so If there is something you think should be included, let it be known and if you have ideas on how to accomplish it that would even better.

How about a status bar that shows dirty pictures as it installs? That would get even more people to test it!

Seriously, everyone, let's do what we can to help out. If you know of anyone that hasn't yet been assimilated and would like to give it a try, go for it!

Will this install over a Win9x LAN?

I'm gonna try a local install on my P166 MMX.

Sukhoi, I am all ears on ideas about how to make Win9X install as a service over a LAN. That is something we would like to do, but not sure how to go about that yet. Later version I suppose. Anyway, the Local installs seem to work perfectly whether single or dual CPUs, obviously Dual CPU only functions on NT/2K/XP. The LAN install is pretty smooth for you future farmers out there...

Hehe... I just got a screenshot from rleach2. He almost made a big mistake and swapped the "To Install" and "Not Install". :Q

BTW, he said he just demo'ed it on one machine and in his words, "that flex install is f'en sweet". This could be a real boost to members who have access to large fleets but don't have the time for manual installs. Kudos to Shux, bot, and crew!!!!!

Shux... I killed my current install on my system and had rleach2 try it over our WAN. He was able to see my box, install the service, and it's running without a hitch. I'm still waiting for it to complete the WU it downloaded. Looks like it's gonna be done after I leave. I'll post tomorrow and let you know if it completed and downloaded a new WU normally.

Thanks again for all your work!!!!!

I tried it over the work net last night. I ran the program from my laptop, installing to a server over the network. Both are running Win2K (laptop is Pro, Server is Server, of course )

Several things:

1. It only loaded 1 instance of SETI even though it was a dual proc server. Did I have to specify it had 2 CPUs?
2. I almost got caught by the network install defaulting to install all named PCs and having the Install or Not Install reversed from the usual setup and could have installed SETI on the headquarters PCs in Chicago. NOT a good thing, could have meant the end of SETI and my career at work. :Q (It's a good thing I was trying to READ the info on the screen, and not just fly by... )

Suggestions:
A - Swap the Install & Not Install so the Not Install is on the left, the Install is on the right
B - Default to Not Installed, and have a way to select 1, 2, many, or All workstations to move over to Install
C - Have a Reset, and/or be able to move workstations back to Not Installed

3. I rebooted my laptop afterwards, and got a strange Windows Messsage about C:\Program not being correct or duplicate, and wanting to change it to c:\Program1
4. Future release please add SETIDRIVER as part of the installation.
5. Future release please add an Uninstall feature that works like the Install over the network. It would be very handy for managing the herd, as sometimes you might have to do an Uninstall on a remote PC(s) that you physically can't get to right away.

Comments: Other than that listed above, it was very straight forward and easy to use. AND FAST! When I hit the Install, it came back so fast that I thought there was a problem. When I went to check the server, it had installed and was running! :Q Dang that was fast!

If I had permission to install SETI on the entire work fleet, I would definitely use this. It would save a LOT of time.

Dasm Great Job!

I wish I had this when I first installed SETI on the work fleet!!

#1---I have added dual CPU support to the LAN install.(next release)

#2A-OK

#2B-I had it default to install ALL because I assumed people would WANT to install ALL possible machines.
This would be easy to change but I would like some more opinions on this first.

#2C-You can already move them back and forth between installed/not installed. A reset/cancel can be added.

#3---Hmmm...I noticed that, it is a byproduct of the SC program. It will be gone in the next release.

#4---SetiDriver will be added as well, I just have not had the opportunity to learn to use it yet. (next release)

#5---The is a program called TOOLS that I am working on that allows you to stop/stop, uninstall and check WU progress on all the machines on the LAN.(hopefully next release)

I hope that answers a few Q's.

I am also trying to add the ability to make a user_info.sah. I want to do this without the user having to work in a dos box, any ideas would be appreciated.

After some thought, I think defaulting them all to don't install is a better(safer) default. Also I just added moving more than one at a time back and forth.

Thanks again RAY!

Just played around with it at work and it is nice! Very fast!

I agree with Ray though that the default should be to not install all because as much as someone might like to install all the machines their boss may not let them. You may want to add a button that would let them select all if they chose with a warning popping up reminding them about permission and maybe a disclaimer renouncing responsibility if the person selects all. I would think we would want to minimize our exposure as a TeAm to potential problems that could arise if someone chose to install without permission or if they accidently installed all the computers in a large corporation. :Q

Otherwise I think you have addressed any other concerns such as Setidriver and the ability to generate a user_info.sah (unfortunately I don't have the expertise to help you with that)

Again nice work Guys
