You can't be serious about 5. About Tekken 4, you are correct. But T5's combo system seems much more like TTT's again, although there's no tag feature. I agree that T5 has become slightly more VF-ish, but it's still tekken. The biggest change that T5 seems to have added, is the non-infinite playfields, yes, T4 had walls, but T5's walls are.. more deadly. Much more like SF-style "corner traps", if you start to get combo'd against a wall.Originally posted by: serialkiller
best tekken my bunghole, not to thread crap but I have been a hardcore tekken player since tekken I the original..... I have stopped playing from tekken 4, because they changed the whole layout/engine of the game into a more virta fighter layout/engine. The game is closed to pointless now since the key to being the ultimate tekken 4 & 5 player is to master the art of "jabbing like a mad man." All combos and juggles are combined with the simple use of the jab.

Not only that, but all combos and juggles are also interupted easily by the use of this simple jab to a point where its pointless to even use any of the moves.... last time I remember there wasnt much skills involved to jab away at your opponent. Tekken was a good game because it had an ass load of moves that you could choose from to defeat your opponent. Not only that but it took skills to be good since every character had their own personal moves/style which were pretty tricky to master since alot of the combos or power moves can be switched up into either a high, mid or low attack. I just think they should of stayed with the old layout/engine..... Im sure no one cares, but tekken tag imho was the best tekken that ever came out. Good luck in the jab-a-thon contest!

Exactly! This is not your father's Tekken 4.Originally posted by: vr6
i am definitly recommending this to all tekken players who were turned off by T4. T4 was a blemish, why not give this a try at the local arcade and see for yourselves?
Well.. every new game that they come out with, they "tweak" things, add/change moves, joystick movements, change timings, you have to re-learn the game all over again, nearly. (Also being a huge SF fan, I consider that a slight drawback to Tekken, having to re-learn it again, with SF, once you learn "basic SF skills", you can sit down at nearly any of them and play them. Tekken and MK change the moves on you.)Originally posted by: serialkiller
From what I felt from playing tekken 5 is the same style as tekken 4(give or take). I tried using a character I was familiar with from the previous tekkens (julia). Every move I tried to pull would not execute properly, and the time that it took to execute the move was very sluggish and laggy.
You have to learn the "frames" all over again, they do tweak things. While T5 isn't nearly the jab-fest that T4 was, I do slightly agree that those players with mostly faster attacks do have an advantage.Originally posted by: serialkiller
Forward, forward left punch or right punch i forgot in tag was a very quick move that had hardly no wait time to recover.... in tag it seemed like after executing it paused for a moment to where I was not able to execute another move right after it. Maybe my tag playing style just isnt what the newer line of tekken is geared for.
Sounds like he was a "scrub", just playing a frame- and change-up game. You need to go to some of the gatherings in Philly, Chi-town, Boston, NJ, etc. There's some pretty good players around here. (One of them was so obsessed, he had a "TEKKEN" license plate. Yeah, he's very good. I could still beat him in T4 though, sometimes. Maybe it was the "randomness" of that game.)Originally posted by: serialkiller
I also watched how my opponent played and sure enough all he did was jab away here and there and threw in some lower attacks to confuse me.
Yeah, I miss the fact that most arcades have removed/destroyed their old arcade TTT machines, I used to play that still, when T4 or SC2 was busy. I could beat the arcade one one-handed, it was kind of fun that way. (Eddy/Panda/Ganryu were all possible to play more-or-less one-handed, at least against the computer and mid-level and below human opponents.) T4 is significantly harder to play one-handed, Christy is alright, but Steve is probably better, because you can still sway defensively and duck/dodge with just the buttons. I've beaten (lower-level) human opponents one-handed in T4 too. But it would be foolish to try that against good human players. (I can play Maxi one-handed in SC and SC2 too, and Voldo somewhat one-handed.)Originally posted by: serialkiller
Glad to see there are alot of tekken fans out there! Gooooo tekken..... tag that is!! hahahah

Indeed, how could it be - Heihachi is dead! Quite possibly the biggest storyline change in the entire series. Btw, the new Jack is a bad-azz. He's not only powerful, but quick as heck too. They've also added some new pop-up/air-throw combos, Hworang and Jack both have something like that, as does Raven, one of the new characters.

Please go away or something. No one finds your pessimism funny.
