Temp monitoring software

Dunno if u can help but...

I'm running a Soltek SL-75DRV4 w/ AthlonXP 1800+ + Thermaltake Volcano 7. The hardware monitoring software bundled with the mobo was ITE SmartGuardian.

My bios reads the CPU temp fine (as 30 at startup) and the external sensor fine (at 25) but when I startup the bundled program displays the CPU temp as going into +xxx until it reaches 128 then it switches to -128, while reading the other temp fine. What is going wrong here? And is there anything I can do to fix it?

Check with a couple of other programs, maybe Motherboard Monitor or SpeedFan. If those work ok, then I would file a bug report with the manufacturer and/or monitoring software developer. If those don't work, then you might want to see if you can RMA the board.

I used Mother Board Monitor and it didnt work for my motherboard, eventhought it said it can.

Ive tried it several times and changed the options but still no luck,

BTW: it was allways stuck at 22C

Anybody else have that problem?

Use Sandra2002 to find out your enviroment monitor then go here and try to download a different ITE Smartguardian.

I have the exact same motherboard, but I haven't had that problem...odd...anyway, another temp moniter that I use is called HMonitor. I like it because it keeps a record of your temps in an excel file and it has a nifty icon in the system tray that displays your processor temp all the time. I use HMonitor instead of the SmartGuardian...but I think you have to pay for it after 20 days...I can't remember.

Now that I think about it, I did have that problem...it only happened when I had it read in degrees F, but when I switched it to Celsius, it worked fine...try switching it to read in Celsius if you haven't already.

I've had quite a few problems with Mobo monitor as well. It used to report my cpu temp at 128 degrees celsius all of the time. Now, it fails to correctly report the cpu speed.

NewCompGeek: The only thing I can think is: Are you monitoring the proper temperature. Most of those monitoring chips have more than one register, and there is no law that says that the MoBo manufacturer has to put the CPU temp on probe 1. They may be placing the CPU temp on probe 2 or 3. Seems to me I had an older EPOX board that had that problem, and I wound up having to manually activate probe 2 in order to see my CPU temps.

my Gigabyte GA-8IRXP put the CPU on probe 3. Too bad it wasn't probe 1 though...I would much rather be getting a CPU that was 25C at full load
