Tequila!

Good tequila is good. Bad (cheap) tequila needs a lot of salt and lime or lemon or something else to kill the flavor.

Tequila..... . Made me the life of the party on Sunday evening. My wife's cousin talked me into doing a shot with him and it was all downhill from there. Apparently I did at least 12 shots in the course of the evening, ditched the lime after about shot #3 and chased those suckers with beer. Between the tequila and close to a 12 pack of beer, I was hammered out of my skull by the time we left....

I've found El Tesoro to be a very good drinking tequila for under $30. Give it a whirl and see what you think. I drank half a bottle of it a couple months ago and I was three sheets to the wind. These n00bs were doing shots from it and 2 of them never even had tequila before...the other didn't much like it.

So I got this glass of tequila in my hand and while the others are pussyfooting around trying to get up the nerve to do a shot, I've already drank 3 glasses of the stuff.

Mmm...so good....

I went liquor shopping today, and picked up Jose Cuervo Especial... it was the most expensive available... now i'm reading this stuff is crap?!

Yeah... i always thought all the liquor stores in Ontario were equally the same (all liquor is controlled and sold by the government)... but i couldn't find Da Vinci Vodka that i saw at another store a couple of months ago. They must carry different stuff store from store then.... maybe i missed something else. I just looked at the highest priced bottle and picked it up.

Either i've acquired a taste for hard liquor since the last time i drank tequila, or the tequila i bought was actually good quality... because it's actually pretty damn smooth! Looks like i'm going to get hammered tonight.

Jose Cuervo Especial is a blended tequila, relying on up to 49% non-Agave fermentables (including plain old corn sugar)... BUT look when you buy the tequilia. You want 100% agave (preferrably blue agave), and preferably something that comes in two different grades (anejo, reposado), BOTH grades are aged, with reposado about 2 -12 months and anejo being aged about 12-30 months.

Cuervo does make some very fine tequilas. Tradicional is a a great tequila to start with and serve at gatherings (it isn't too expensive). Jose cuervo anejo and Reserva de la familia are both VERY good.

Premium tequilas only, por favor. Preferably Añejo. Cuervo 'Reserva de la Familia' is my favorite, but $$$ so I save it for special occasions. For everyday enjoyment I started with Sauza 'Tres Generationes', then moved to Patron Gold and Chinaco. After that, even 1800 was too harsh.

My current everyday choice is Don Julio. I love me some tequila!

As i haven't had any of those, i can only guess that the sauza might be the better choice. Look to see if any of them are 100% agave, if so, then eliminate the others.
