So, I find myself with some free time lately and I figure it'd be fun to reload Doom 3. It's been awhile since I played it and since then I've upgraded to a 8800GTX. Should be cool to turn everything up and blast some creatures of hell, right?... Mmm, not so much.
Installed the game and loaded the latest patch (1.3.1 I believe it was). Hit Widescreegamingforums since I have a 20WMGX2 and made the ini changes for my 1680x1050 resolution. Fire up the game and notice I'm getting between 9-12 fps per second. Pretty underwhelming. So, I knock things down a bit (from Ultra to just high, and 8aa to 4aa) with zero change. Still hovering around 10fps.
Whatever is going on is limited to Doom 3, or at least OpenGL games. I play BF2 and 2142 (among others) frequently and cap out at my V-Sync imposed 60fps limit.. and thats with much higher settings then a measely 4aa. The BF titles are D3D though. I don't really want to install Quake 4 just to troubleshoot Doom 3 however. So if anyone has any insight or ideas as to what the issue could be I'm all ears. My rig (see sig) is more then enough to plow through the game but nothing I change seems to make a difference. I deleted the ini settings I added for my widescreen but still got terrible frames. Even at 12x10 and 4aa I get 10 fps when moving around. If I stare at the cealing it jumps to the 40s, but thats not really very fun.
any ideas?
ps. I am using the current XP32 drivers for my 8800GTX (158.22).
