I was thinking it was weird for you to defend the CT here.

Most auto hatches the hinges are high up, so less likely to get a body part stuck in it. This hinge is right at hand height.
@sdifox is no Elon stan. Both parties can be "at fault" for different levels.

What's really wild is what @snoopy7548 pointed out, that someone at Tesla allegedly messaged that their implementation is intentional. If that can be proved, they will eventually have lawsuits to contend with when young kids lose fingers. Kids will be kids and accidents happen; shrugging it off as consumer negligence isn't going to fly well if your design sucks.

Is the Tesla Cyber truck designed on a computer with limited calculation capability ?
Or is the 1990 SNES SUPER FX coprocessor used for the 3D polygon rendering ?

Or did a runaway Artifical Intelligence that happened to be fond of TRON (1982) the design ?

It's actually stealth, F-117 tech. Cops radar can't pick it up and laser is countered by the shiny body.
At least they fixed it relatively quickly.
Did the update fix it? I won't be convinced until I see Youtubers try their fingers again.

Motor Trend - Rivian vs CT vs Hummer

The WankPanzer got last place, the Rivian coasted into first place. Some CT highlights:

"While we made excellent progress in the Cyberbeast, achieving a pace we’d never expect from a pickup truck, we still felt like we could never get into a rhythm. The Cybertruck is a lot like the head of the company that makes it: One can never be entirely sure what it will do next." - not a good characteristic for a car wouldn't you say?

"Sure, the Tesla is arguably the most novel truck here, but once the novelty wears off, what do you have? Tesla fanatics will no doubt treasure the Beast, but it feels to us like the Christmas present we’ll tire of most quickly."

"Rivian R1T: This is How It’s Done
Contrast that with the Rivian, which filled us with a sense of disbelief. How can a three-and-a-half-ton motherloving pickup truck drive so damn well?.....
....The Rivian is the best-handling truck here by such a large margin it’s barely a competition."

My buddy just picked his up. He got the AWD Foundation Edition. His review so far:

1. Drives like a small car due to the fly-by-wire steering system.
2. Zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds is crazy on 35" tires at nearly 7,000 pounds
3. Sound system is excellent, from music to Bluetooth
4. The most attention-getting car ever. Grandmas are taking pictures from the sidewalk. People are talking to him at stoplights haha.
5. Definitely a dust magnet. He's getting it wrapped.
6. He's like six & a half feet tall. Said the inside is SUPER comfortable & way better seats than the Model 3. Fits the whole family with 5 seats plus has the covered trunk for groceries & whatnot.

SO JEALOUS!

As someone who both drives, walks, and bikes, it is absolutely terrifying that we allow this kind of stuff on the street, especially without any additional licensing requirements. Then, throw in the fun part of everyone driving heavier and heavier vehicles leading to more road damage (proportional to axle weight to the 4th power) that targeted taxes are not paying for at all (and thus, subsidized by everyone - drivers and non-drivers).

Someone who says this thing feels like a small car because of the steer by wire is definitely not qualified to review or even drive it haha.

Also don’t forget the crap brakes that fade and have terrible stopping performance even before that … because 7000 lbs

Can you just imagine a fleet of CT's intermixed with lifted F350's and huge SUV's all converging on a elementary school when the kids get out?

There was a local news report a year ago or so (I don't remember which one though) in which they showed that something like 16 first graders could sit in front of an Escalade before you would just barely see the top of a child's head. The frontal blind spots are insanely large.

Edit: I see NJB mentioned that issue.

This is not always a positive. A few weeks ago we were getting drinks at a nicer restaurant in the bar before trundling over a couple blocks for some Japanese food (they always have a long wait). Cybertruck pulls up in front and doesn't want to pay for the valet. So it goes around the block three times and finally settles into a too small space across the street where it is partially blocking the crosswalk. The gentleman and his female companion amble into the bar and plop down. Unfortunately most people in the bar by then are talking about how stupid it is. They sit with drink menus and then bail after a few minutes as they become aware that a good 70% of the people in the place are bashing his ride.

Came here to say this. These morons think that everyone must be admiring their truck. Sure, some other dbags might, but most people are looking at it and thinking what the reality is, that shit is ugly and who would spend that kind of money for this Musk flop.

Every honest review talks about the shitty friction brakes. But these guys are so toxic they love the 0-60spd and could care less about real safety issues. The link I posted last to the motor trend comparison of the Rivian, Hummer and CT definitely points out the braking issue and the fly by wire steering when it comes to any kind of hard driving.

It's amazing that after all the things about Elon and the CT have been exposed, and in this thread too, these wankpanzer fans are still into it. They are hopeless.

Oh also, the porsche race against the cybertruck, totally faked, even after they got caught and said the CT won the 1/8th mile race, that was also a lie.

@Kaido doesn't care what you progressives think. He just needs his wife to get onboard with a $70k CT for Christmas 2026. Perhaps Elon will be out as CEO by then, having alienated much of the prospective customer base.

Here’s the truth: A Tesla Cybertruck cannot tow a Porsche 911 Carrera T over a quarter mile quicker than the 911 Carrera T alone can run the race. Add it to the long list of broken Tesla promises.
ouch, damning end quote from Motor Trend

I generally agree with Matt Farah on automotive things he likes. I also agree with him on automotive things he hates.

I'm waiting for the time when America collectively stands back, looks at the Cybertruck, and all agree this vehicle truly is awful. Faith restored.

He called me on the way home from pickup. The very first thing he said was how scary it felt driving a nearly 7,000-pound vehicle that drove so fast & turned so easily & was so BIG yet felt so SMALL!

That one dude broke his finger on the frunk the other day:

He said it drove easier than his old Toyota sedan & that you get used to the enhanced steering pretty quick. I'm VERY excited to test-drive it!

F-250's are super popular where I live was family vehicles. All of these new trunks have laughably tall front-ends. Like just a wall of metal haha. It's like a vertical metal shredder on just about any brand you see these days:

I'm very curious to (1) test-drive the Cybertruck, and (2) compare it to other EV's & cars in general:

1. Before I got my Mustang, I test-drove the second-gen Honda Ridgeline, which is the best-steering car I've ever driven, which was surprising for being, well, a truck!

2. I later test-drove the Mustang Mach-E. Being an S550 fan, I didn't particularly care for the name vs. the looks (but everyone calls it the Mach-E, so meh), however...up to that point, it was the BEST car I've ever driven! It's an EV that they made feel like driving an ICE, so all the power PLUS all the comfort. Test-driving it completely changed my opinion of the vehicle. It just felt more comfortable all around than the Tesla S, 3, X, and Y (still haven't found a Plaid to test-drive yet tho!)...how it rode, how it drove, how the pedals & brakes responded, how the UI & creature comforts were to use, and even that weird but awesome giant knob in the middle of the touchscreen.

3. I then test-drove the F-150 Lightning EV. To date, this is my favorite car I've driven, EV or ICE. Just a really remarkable vehicle. My only complaint is the limited range, which will probably be addressed in the future as battery tech improves.

My original main interest in the Cybertruck was for the giant battery, which kinda-sorta exists with the battery backpack boosting it to 470 miles (...for an extra $16k). I'm not particular interested in having a truck outside of that. tbh, due to the extreme price hikes (going from $40k to $60k for the base...I mean, you could buy an entire brand-new Subaru Impreza for that lol), that kind of changed the financial conversation quite a bit imo. I'd probably sooner end up upgrading to a V8 Mustang haha.
