I have no idea why people can't understand that the death rate for an illness is worse where medical care is virtually absent. It defies any sense at all.

Technically, isn't our Ebola death rate in the US now standing at 100%?

I know, I know, lies, damned lies, and statistics...

Your analysis of reasoning is immaterial. It sucks to have ebola. It sucks to be in that region of Africa. It really really sucks to have ebola in that region of Africa. The refusal to acknowledge real and substantial differences between first world care and the cesspool which is Liberia is denial itself.

It apparently sucks to have Ebola in the US too. You seem a bit too fervent in your efforts to downplay this virus, as if somehow the US is immune.

No, there's a lot that you and many don't understand but "we" aren't all clueless. The disease is well understood. Difficult to manage in places like Africa, but the virus is not magic and we aren't looking to balance the various humors to cure it. This isn't Godzilla in miniature.

Why so angry?

Really interested to see how many of the people who had contact with him start showing symptoms...

If the people who cleaned up his vomit while wearing flip flops do not develop Ebola... then there is probably not too much to worry about.

I don't think I said it doesn't suck to have Ebola in the US <peeks> nope I didn't say that at all "It sucks to have ebola" is pretty clear. Now let's think about this. If you could be magically transported to US facilities or dumped in Monrovia, tell me you'd pick the latter and say there's no possible reason you wouldn't do just as well there. If that's what you would say then on what basis?

As far as "immune" you'd be hard pressed to find where I said that there cannot be any cases of EBOV ever. In fact I have said that localized cases were possible and those who were directly contaminated by the deceased could develop the disease. Yep.

What I have and still say is that there is no mechanism for the disease to spread through the general population in our particular case. If this were the case, why isn't Nigeria a dead land? They haven't a percentage of our resources yet are still alive and far more at risk just by their geography.

Immune to certain scenarios isn't the same as completely invulnerable period.

Now you might say the virus can mutate into something airborne. Of course. After all fish mutated into amphibians. It is possible that everyone on AT could hit the lottery. At some point you do have to have faith that the Sun isn't going to disappear, and that is entirely possible from a scientific perspective. When millions of disease events (not just with ebola) are recorded without this much feared change seen, then I have to go with the overwhelming odds.

Why the hell people keep creating new threads on the same topic? How many ebola threads are here now? Mods need to stop this stupid practice

Well we have how many police abuse threads? It's a timely subject and when there's drama there's action!

I remember a mod had created a thread a while back and asked the police obsessed poster to put all his stuff there. Don't know what happened to it

IIRC, we've had at least 4 people flown to the US for treatment, who are now alive and well.

So it seems to me that this is potentially "big" news because it is a new outcome.

Ebola is clearly something you don't want to mess around with, but when you're acting responsibly and with knowledge, your chances of survival are apparently significantly better.

I take it he feels a need to downplay it in an attempt to combat the rampant ignorance and irrational fear of it.

Ebolaland survival rules:
#1: don't eat bush-meat, especially bats
#2: let professionals handle any corpses you come across
#3: don't live in a 3rd world country
(i.e. we're pretty damn safe from ebola in the US)

ebola threads are spreading faster than the virus itself. Thats the biggest tragedy of all.

New England Journal of Medicine:
Since Ebola virus was first identified in 1976, no previous Ebola outbreak has been as large or persistent as the current epidemic, and none has spread beyond East and Central Africa. To date, more than 1000 people, including numerous health care workers, have been killed by Ebola virus disease (EVD) in 2014, and the number of cases in the current outbreak now exceeds the number from all previous outbreaks combined.
This outbreak is literally unprecedented.

Glad to see you're still panicking.

Glad to see you still regard posting verifiable facts as panicking.

I'm just glad I could rig up a decontamination chamber in my extra bathroom. Now I can actually use about 30% of my domicile without wearing my clunky CBRN gear.

No, I see you posting those things in light of what else you've written as a sign that you're continuing to panic.

If you've come about to a more rational view of the situation then I'm happy to hear it! From what I remember though there's apparently no rational response possible when the costs are unlimited.

lol.

Feel free to quote me in panic. Please include a list of references documenting the objective criteria you use for defining panic over the internet. Also, is anything in that post factually incorrect?

No thanks, although I will use this post in future efforts to document passive aggressive bullshitting over the internet so all is not lost.

So you can't. So basically you're making it all up as you go along.

I kinda figured as much, but now I'll have to ask every time since I never know when you might be trying to trap me in a cunning ruse.

+1

As far as Ebolla goes, this outbreak is unprecedented. As far as nasty African diseases go, Ebolla is still in the bush leagues - pun intended.

You should definitely do that.

So just collecting BS is the only reason you post in this thread more or less?

You really don't add anything to it.

One of the Sheriff's deputies that responded to the Duncan residence has been hospitalized and is being monitored.

Monning was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient.

Monnig did enter the apartment where Duncan stayed after Duncan had been admitted to the hospital.

He was in the apartment for 30 minutes

Monnig reported he has some contact with the family of the first patient to be diagnosed with the virus on American soil, Thomas Duncan.

Look at all the people in here that believe this thing is contained.
