After 4 years, my old rig had finally given up and was dying a slow death and I decided that instead of paying inflated prices, I was going to build my computer myself. When I started researching and reading up 4 weeks ago, I was fairly intimidated by the whole process and overclocking was not something I thought I would ever be tempted to try.

Well, after a long and ardous researching period and asking tons of rookie questions in here, I have her up and running and she is GORGEOUS! Both extremely fast (esp. compared to the old one) and fantastic graphics. Could not be happier.

So, with that, I just wanted to say thanks to all that helped out with suggestions and tech help the last couple of weeks. Hell, me thinks OC'ing won't be that difficult now

Here is the whole rig:

Case: Thermaltake Tsunami

Mobo:EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego

Ram: OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) platinum

Vid: eVGA 256-P2-N516 Geforce 7800GT

PSU: Fortron AX500-A

HDD's: WD Raptor 74GB and WD Caviar SE 320GB

Optical's: NEC DVD Burner ND-3550A and LITE-ON DVD-ROM Drive SOHD-16P9SV

Monitor: 24"Sony Trinitron GDM-FW900Flat Screen

Total, including shipping: $1893.00 ($400 for the monitor including shiping)

Thanks everyone

Sweet! How do you like the GT and the 3550A? I'm looking to get myself both.

Nice rig! I also have the 3700+ and it's great overclocker even on stock volts. Mine will do 2.7ghz on stock volts and 2.8ghz with 1.55v

An easy moderate overclock that you should be able to do on stock volts:

Set HT multi to 4x
Set HTT/FSB to 240x
Set DDR speed to DDR333(166)

Making those 3 changes in bios will run your CPU at 2640mhz and your ram at stock 200mhz(DDR400) so all auto settings on ram timings and voltages. It should boot up and pass stability settings at this speed on stock(auto) CPU volts, if not bump the volts a notch or two.

Wow...been gone today so this is the first chance I got to peek in here.

Thanks for all the compliments. It goes partly to me, but also to all the great folks here...really, it does. I would have spent more and gotten less if not the case.

Now for the individual questions:

Crism - The vid card is just wow. Seriously. Granted I came from a FX5200, so pretty much anything would be wow, but still. My main game right now is WoW and it's maxed out all the settings and even in IronForge there is NO LAG! My 3DMark05 score (with Avast and Nvidia's Firewall both still running) was 7255 and that is stock. I just got the trial version so I am not sure how high of settings they run those demos on, but that seems to be a decent score. And the DVD burner...well, it's quiet. I have not really used it much other than loading programs and such (haven't burnt anything) but the reviews are great on it. I'd recommend both!

Shizzle - I LOVE the case. I would DEFINITELY recommend it. I'm 30yo and like having something a little "fun" but not obnoxious. The blue lights (6 total - exhaust fan, 3 LED's on the mobo, and the two on the face) are very nice...not overly bright, but just enough to give it a warm glow. And I was very impressed with how solid the case is. No rattling and everything seems quite tight. My only beef is more with the stock HSF for my CPU than the case...while not loud, it isn't silent. The stock fans on the case sure seem awfully quiet to me. VERY VERY happy with the case!

As for pics...I will take some tomorrow and get them up here then. When I do, please keep in mind that this is my first ever build so the wires could probably be a little neater, with experience

And Guitar Daddy, next weekend when I get into my OC'ing, I will take a look at those numbers. Many thanks!

Looks good. That 3700+ is aching to be OC'ed; get a nice Cu Zalman HSF on that and let 'er rip.

I've been looking into TT Tsunami's recently. Definitely picking one up whenever I get the cash.
