Dumb question:

If I were to do something like, say, add another couple machines to the pack, I don't need to register another account, right?

<tents fingers> Excellent. Hopefully sometime tomorrow the TeAm will get a visit from a few more of my little friends.

Also, is there any way to get my hands on the source?

Asshats. If they're not going to let me do it, they should make me a Linux 2.4.x compatible client that runs on an SH4 processor themselves. Maybe I can bastardize one of the other *nix/BSD builds into working.

Most people find that running the Windows CLI under WINE is faster than the native Linux client

Garry

I'd love to do that, but I have to consider that the target platform is an SH4 with 16MB of RAM ... a Dreamcast.

16MB of RAM will barely hold a kernel, net drivers, and SETI CLI, let alone a few layers of emulation.

Grrr, work is taking its sweet time getting me my tax forms. I wanted to add a laptop, but it's not going to be in time.

Yes, I'm sure I'll get a big enough return for some low-end laptop.

More SETI oddness.

I've got two identical machines here (Dell Optiplex GX240s) - one running Win98SE, one on W2K Server. The W2K started before the 98SE as well ...

98SE - 43.09% complete, 2:37 remaining
W2K - 46.52% complete, 3:10 remaining

The 98SE is smoking the W2K. Is it just an OS thing? I wouldn't think RAM would be a hangup ... they've both got 512MB.

Edit - As I typed this, the 98SE one jumped up another 1/2-percentage

M4H,

Different Work Units (WUs) will have a different Angle Range (AR), which plays a part in how long they take to crunch. The "average" is 0.417, with it getting slightly quicker as the angle range increases, and decreases, however when it gets to a point going lower (about 0.1) the times start getting more and more, especially on 9x systems, and it is less of a hit on NT based systems.

You can only really compare between systems which are running the same AR WUs

Smoke (not a moderator - heh!) - Another P4C 2.8 online minutes ago for SETI. Just send the little gold star to the usual address.

I was at my local Computer super center today. To my supprize all the PCs had active network connections.
There were a ton of Centrenos and P4 3.0s just sitting there. I started to think on my way home how weird people would think I was if I just sorta hung around for 6 or 7 hours after playing with all the PCs there. It should be good for 200 or so WUs...

You're supposed to shout "Ding" when you level.

HTH.

I take it you never played the "Gauntlet" series.

- M4H

I wish that were true. I'm sure I would have saved all the quarters, invested them wisely, and been rich today.

Nah.

But I don't remember leveling. Was that in Gauntlet 2? Maybe I was just so bad I never leveled.
