It's interesting to see the polarity amongst the camps here..

How can you be so sure Mantle will be an awesome success as claimed? You cannot. We don't even have BF4 performance results yet. It's all hype.

Likewise, how can you be so sure Mantle will fail hard, to justify the endless trolling going on here? You cannot, you have NOTHING to substantiate that it wont perform well.

So really, take a chill pill and wait and see. It's interesting times ahead.
We cannot even judge or review on APU 13 in fact we need to see actual of non marketing reviews like Guru3d or Anandtech when patch comes out.

You mean the source that shows that Thief and BF4 for example is an AMD sponsored game via the Gaming Envolved sponsorship? Its no different than the crap nVidia does to pay companies to use PhysX.

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/games/Pages/games.aspx

Nope. I mean actual quotes or sources that explicitly state that AMD paid the developer to use or climb onboard the Mantle wagon.

What you've just shown to me is exactly where I thought you were coming from in the first place. Guessing. Not good enough man, not for around here.

How is PhysX and DX related? Both Xbox One and PS4 officially supports PhysX and APEX. And you dont need a driver to run PhysX on the CPU.

No.

PhysX SDK supports Xbox One and PS4 not the other way around.

Yes, you do need a driver to run physX on the CPU - I'm on a 7870 XT and if I install something like Dragon Age or Mass Effect it prompts me to install physX drivers.

More recent games don't require a separate installer though, but they do add physX files to the system.

Again, AMD doesn't need Mantle in the Xbox One (after all AMD isn't competing with anyone in the consoles) but devs could use mantle if they wanted by adding mantle libraries to their engines.

There are no drivers in the PhysX installation. The only driver related to PhysX is in the nVidia GFX drivers. Everything else is just DLLs. And the CPU run version only uses those.

To use Mantle in consoles, the graphics hardware driver would have to support it. And it doesnt.

It is not logic and every one knows that Developer will not try any thing from both side for free.
AMD paid DICE 8 million it will be included in that.

Exactly, a developer will only do something on its own, if it can get it back in return on sales. Nor Mantle or PhysX gives this, its simply expenses for both.

Just look at TressFX, how many more games did we get with that?

^ in bold is correctly spelled "knows".
"Now" means right at this moment in time.

Not poking fun at all just trying to make it easier for me to read your posts.

Back to topic, what that is called, is assuming. Assuming always brings trouble. I like to deal in facts that are quantifiable. Provable.

You very well know neither nVidia or AMD would ever admit it. Because it would be a PR disaster to tell people that they have to pay companies to use their failed technologies that they try what they can to make a decision checkbox when people buy hardware. And I assume as a focus member, its why you question it.

Focus and advocate members got conflict of interrest in these threads.

Yeah drivers like to install .dll files.

Look at me downloading and successfully installing the physX software required to play games with CPU physX.

Ya they cannot say that we paid dam good money to dev to support our product and neither Dev will say that we take huge amount of money to support Nvidia or AMD.

If you want to show it uses a driver, then you havent posted any relevant. You could run Dragon age on a non nVidia system and then show it makes system calls to the proclaimed PhysX driver of yours.

Drivers depend on SYS files to access hardware, not DLL.

You can also type driverquery in a CMD to show drivers, loaded or not. And there is no PhysX.

Posting the same thing over doesnt make it right. Now run driverquery in a CMD on your system, and show me ther loaded PhysX driver. If you cant, then there isnt any.

It did make me install PhysX for Payday 2 even though I don't think the game even utilizes it. Now that I think about it, is this normal?

Mantle is a graphics driver yes.

Did you find your proclaimed PhysX driver yet?

Mantle is an API.

Are you saying NVIDIA mislabeled their Software?

Are you saying NVIDIA can just install system software on the xbox360?

Although I'm not exactly sure what that driverquery does.

According to it I've an NVIDIA AGP card somewhere when my motherboard doesn't even have AGP slots.

Mantle requires a driver for direct hardware access. Else its not a low level API anymore.

Dear child got many names. Mislabel? Yes. They also call it system software.

Have you reached the conclusion yet that PhysX dont have any drivers when running on the CPU? Or are you still searching?

Mantle requires the same driver Xbox requires to access the same hardware.

PhysX doesn't run on the CPU without software. How can it run on the Xbox 360 without installing the same software? Are you telling me Microsoft supports PhysX?
