Can we tally up predictions again?
I'm sticking with my "30% gain, but mostly in minimum FPS" original prediction. How about you guys?
Anyone who watched the event saw him fidget. His answer was a non answer. Because DICE did get paid 8 million by AMD. This was reported by multiple websites by the way. There is no dispute here. AMD paid DICE to implement Mantle and to co-sponsor BF4.
We don't know to what that money went. It could be the cost for adding Mantle support to Frostbite 3, but it could also be the cost for developing and testing Mantle itself. Dice has clearly been close to AMD in creating Mantle.

I would guess it was a good idea to lock the thread for a while anyways..
Does Mantle require a specific driver from AMD?
Does Mantle require a specific driver from AMD?
Yes, Mantle needs a specific driver. And the driver will be included in the normal driver package.
Will Mantle ship directly with the game engine and not with the Radeon driver ?
RK - We are still working on the actual mechanism and in some cases the game engine developer prefers it shipping with the game engine as it makes their install experience better, in other cases they may prefer us to keep updating it through our Radeon driver mechanism. We are still working on that detail.
From a interview shortly after Mantle was unveiled, the Mantle driver can come as either part of the normal Catalyst driver, or be included in the game.
In other words, BF4 Mantle patch could come tomorrow without AMD releasing Catalyst drivers with Mantle support.

We are used to frequent and huge driver updates done manually. That should be a history of the past with mantle. Or greatly reduced with games using mantle.
The driver is thin - meaning very small. And the driver should remain quite the same over time. The updates will be on the game. Like origin updates to bf should come with updates how the api is used and without us noticing it. And we have to remember we have mantle api wrapped around the mantle driver. Thats how i understand it.

From AMD Kaveri Tech Day:
Up to 45% doesn't mean 45% improvements. It means in the best case scenario, you may see 45%. You see this with driver updates all the time. Rarely do you actually see improvements when they say up to 20% boost in X game. It's over. Sell your Titans, they've just been ridiculed.

What you likely will see is 15-20% for most mantle users, but someone with a specific hardware config, such as a slow amd cpu/apu, they may see up to 45%.
What sinking ship is that? You're going to need a bigger bucket to save your sinking ship. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
