Its a compaq so it sucks already, also, it calls the video card a Geforce FX 6800 ultra......its just called the 6800 Ultra, the last model was called the FX

Please don't get a compaq

I would highly reccomend just building your own computer, it's not difficult in the slightest.

Call their tech support 1 time and you will know why they suck so bad. Also, they use pretty low quality componants. Just remember, not all ram/motherboards/hdd etc are NOT created equal

I don't know about their current consumer products, but their current business products are vastly superior compared to the stuff they had a few years ago, the old stuff did indeed suck.

Sounds like a good fit.. If you arent comfotable building your own.
! gig of ram is a comfortable #
The 6800 is a very nice card.. and you can be assured it isnt onboard video, and that it comes with a agp slot.. cause the card is in it..
The only potential bads here I see is optical drives. usually oems use cheap junk like LG. but in the end optical drives are cheap and do have a warranty.
The bottom line here is this machine should be a nice machine. able to play doom 3 , will be a couple 3 years b4 you need a new one..
I agree with the sentiments re: compaq. if you cant find one from the likes of Alienware or someother that you can afford that meets the specs. buy this one
GL Happy computing..

I tend to agree with DIRTsquirt. The mobo and other major components for the GX500Z all seem top shelf and the price isn't unreasonable. Sure you could probably build it for less but then you have the potential of dealing with multiple companies/warrantees (all pointing the finger at each other) should a problem arise.

In short: Looks like a very nice system for those people who have more money than time but don't have the $$$ to shop at the boutique vendors such as Alienware.

I have to take back some of what I said. I decided to buy a GX5000Z and I ended up returning it after two days.

  • First of all the system was DOA.
  • When I opened the system to see why it was DOA I was shocked at how messy the wiring was. Turns out one of the SATA connectors had snapped off of the mobo. For some reason they had the SATA cables tied up in a extremely taught big bundle. At some point apparently the system must have been mishandled and the tension on the SATA connector was too much.
  • The machine was way too loud even for a gaming machine. I suspect if they did a better job with cabling they could have backed on the fans.

Compaq was very good about letting me return it though.
