I'd really like to find out more about this.

Can I avoid this problem by using a 3.0 instead of a 3.2 GHz P4, an MSI FX5200 instead of an FX5600,
etc. ?

To make a long story short, I'd like to get another Shuttle SFF. It sounds reasonable that loading down
a 225/250 watt power supply will increase the probability of a little bit of pyrotechnics.

There's people using overclocked 9800 Pros and overclocking their CPUs without problems, so I wouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: If you're going to be gaming, don't get anything less than a 5700 Ultra, but I'd recommend a 5900nu or higher.

newer shuttles come with 250W PSU...look at my sig...im using all the components that you see in it..i think one of the most important thing you have to concentrate on is GOOD COOLING/ VENTILATION especially when using "furnace-like " components such as high-end video cards and 2 HDDs.. adding a top blowhole will help alot..

It all works flawlessly.

My Shuttle (see sig) runs @220 x 10. It's on a 200W PS and runs 24/7 without problems. CPU temp never goes above 50.
