I'm trying to make a better cucumber trellis for my garden. By nature cucumbers are a vining crop and perform better elevated off the ground. It also benefits the fruit because when they hang vertically versus laying horizontally the fruit is more evenly shaped as they mature.
So I thought about it for a few days then headed to Menards to purchase materials. I knew I wanted them to be lightweight so it was easy to move and I wanted something that was less porous than wood so diseases would not winter over from year to year and it also had to meet a certain monetary investment. After all these are just prototypes and may not work as expected but I won't know that for a whole season.
In the end I decided on PVC and chicken wire in an A frame fashion but with a larger "foot" to support the frame in the center as the vines get heavier and the fruit matures. We will see how well it works or how well is does not.
