We were talking about iGPUs not CPUs, and the fact remains that at the same TDP and same price points Intel has nothing to directly compete against 35W Ritchland in Graphics performance. And this is with a full node process advantage(22nm) for Intel and an older VLIW4 architecture from AMD on 32nm, wait to see what will happen with Kaveri.
let me take a stab. kaveri will come out have god awful cpu perf, good but ultimately unplayable gpu perform (relative to a discrete) all in a TDP uncompetitive with intel. amd will talk talk up HSA as the next coming of Christ and claim many many many design wins. and ultimately we may see kaveri in a few budget notebooks on the bargain / special sales section of best buy. sort of like what happened with trinity
Let me save this to quote you on Kaveri release

Looks like he called it.

Wish it would have quoted the post atenra replied to. Have a link?

Glad to be of assistance.

Question from JP morgan:

"Do you have a backup plan?"

Answer from intel:
"no"

Reply from JP morgan
"thank you guys. Thats very helpfull"

Reply:
"Sure"

What a mess. JP Morgan wasting our time and their customers money. Great. The financial community and investment environment have turned into the most unproductive forces of our society.

Useless incompetent junk !
They behaved like money controlling humans in the financial community already 100, 10, and 1 years ago. When did you see a "turn"?

How was the sound in the voice of the JP morgan analyst? Maybe it's good to be w/o backup plan (company will concentrate efforts) or bad (if the company really needs to change it's plans).

Good news for Bay Trail-T (2GB RAM, 32/64GB storage) tablet users:

VR Zone said:
Windows 8.1 Update 1 could arrive in March, bring memory optimization for low-cost tablets

The purported release date comes from ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, who is often right on the money when it comes to Microsoft-related rumors. Update 1 will reportedly be a minor update that could be released on March 11, in addition to the monthly security patches that Microsoft pushes out on the same day. The update was originally expected to be detailed at the company’s Build conference in April, but apparently that won’t be the case, which is well and good, since Build will likely be reserved for details on Windows 9 and Windows Phone 8.1.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is expected to bring optimization that reduces the memory usage and disk space requirement of the OS for low-cost tablets, which could go a long way in helping the OS gain some footing amidst the onslaught of cheap Android tablets that currently flood the market. Furthermore, the update will reportedly include the ability to pin Metro-style apps to the task bar (with thumbnail previews and the option to close apps with a right-click), and other general improvements to add polish to Windows 8.1.

Lenovo Yoga 2 now available for $499

Looks like a nice lil' subnotebook. Pentium N3520 is the fastest Bay Trail-M part right now, 2.17-2.42GHz quad-core + 854MHz iGPU. Should be faster than any Z3740-based 2-in-1.

51Cube iwork 10 is a Bay Trail convertible that’s thinner than an iPad Air

Chinese manufacturer 51Cube is ready to jump into the Windows 8 convertible fray. Their newly-announced iwork 10 is a dockable tablet that follows in the footsteps of the Microsoft Surface and Asus Transformer Book T100.

[...] The iwork 10 is also quite a bit thinner than the Transformer Book T100. In fact, at 6.9mm it’s actually thinner than the iPad Air.

Numbers taken from AT kaveri review, 45W TDP Kaveri at $119 vs 55W TDP Core i3 4330 at $139

Lets see the god awful cpu perf :

Agisoft Photoscan v1.0 = Core i3 4330 14% faster than 45W A8-7600
3D Particle Movement MultiThread = Core i3 4330 33% faster than 45W A8-7600
Winrar 5.01 = Core i3 4330 2% faster than 45W A8-7600
FastStone Image Viewer 4.9 = Core i3 4330 27% faster than 45W A8-7600
Xilisoft Video Converter 7.5 2x 4k = Core i3 4330 25% faster than 45W A8-7600
Xilisoft Video Converter 7.5 film = Core i3 4330 33% faster than 45W A8-7600
Handbrake 0.9.9 2x 4k = Core i3 4330 8% faster than 45W A8-7600
Handbrake 0.9.9 2x film = Core i3 4330 22% faster than 45W A8-7600
Adobe After Effects 6 = Core i3 4330 3% faster than 45W A8-7600

7zip = Core i3 4330 12% Slower than 45W A8-7600
PovRay 3.7 = Core i3 4330 6% Slower than 45W A8-7600
TrueCrypt 7.1a = Core i3 4330 20% Slower than 45W A8-7600

On average, Core i3 4330 is 10% faster than 45W A8-7600. That is a God awful CPU performance.

Now lets see the unplayable GPU performance.

Bioshock 1240x1024 = 45W A8-7600 is 53% faster than Core i3 4330(both playable)
Tomb Raider
1240x1024 = 45W A8-7600 is 30% faster than Core i3 4330(both playable)
F1 2013 1680x1050 = 45W A8-7600 is 108% faster than Core i3 4330(Only Kaveri playable)
Sleeping Dogs 1240x1024 = 45W A8-7600 is 61% faster than Core i3 4330(both playable)
Company Of Heroes = both unplayable even at 1240x1024

On average, 45W TDP A8-7600 Kaveri is 63% faster than 55W TDP Core i3 4330. Also 45W TDP Kaveri is playable at 720p or higher in 99% of the games unlike Core i3 4330.

Lets see a little bit of Compute, just for the fun of it

LuxMark 2.0 = 45W A8-7600 is 47% faster than Core i3 4330
CompuBench CL v1.1.3 Fluid = 45W A8-7600 is 305% faster than Core i3 4330
CompuBench CL v1.1.3 Computer Vision = 45W A8-7600 is 124% faster than Core i3 4330

On average, 45W TDP A8-7600 Kaveri is 159% faster than 55W TDP Core i3 4330.

So to sum up,

With a lower TDP than Intel and cheaper, the AMD Kaveri is only 10% slower in CPU, 63% faster in Gaming and 159% faster in Compute than Higher TDP and more Expensive Intel Core i3 4330. :whiste:

Sorry to say but your prediction came completely the other way around, it is the Intel Core i3 that is the unbalanced CPU and it seams Intel has become the underdog in the Middle Desktop Segment.

HP Omni 10 5600eg Review (NotebookCheck)

Finally a proper review of a Z3770-based tablet. This HP tablet has some solid specs (including 1920x1200 screen) for a reasonable price ($399). Here's a few quotes regarding Bay Trail-T:

Cinebench R10 and Geekbench show an increased performance of 17% over the Z3740 processor (three comparison devices). The older Z2760 is far behind at -55% and is placed right next to the AMD competitor A4-1200 with -58%.

Of course, the test model cannot live up to its claims entirely, but we cannot dispute one fact: the Omni 10 runs smoothly all the time or at least passably. The Omni can start up within 10 seconds and programs require a mere 2 - 3 seconds to start.

Now Bay Trail ushers in a new era: we ran Prime95 Multi while playing an H264 video and surfing the web. This fluid experience was not possible with Cloverfield.

Pretty interesting comparison of Intel/AMD's best tablet solutions available right now:

Cinebench R10
Z3770 (HP Omni 10):
ST - 1230
MT - 3939

A4-1200 (Toshiba Satellite W30Dt)
ST - 753
MT - 1403

Geekbench 3 (32-bit multi-core)
Z3770 (HP Omni 10): 3072
A4-1200 (Toshiba Satellite W30Dt): 1000

Graphics Performance
[...] The performance is low: at the level of an HD 8180 (A4-1200).

The Satellite W30Dt-A-100 is not a suitable model for comparison as it is a 13.3-inch convertible with a rotating HDD in its heavy chassis. Still, it serves as a good example of how far behind APUs are (in performance-per-Watt) to the second Atom generation for tablets.

So, battery time is much lower than on the Surface 2.

I guess an one node advantage doesn't help so much...

the battery life probably has more to do with the other components than with baytrail. if you read the review its pretty clear other baytrail devices with smaller batteries have longer life (albeit with z3740).

Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that there are Bay Trail-T based tablets with smaller batteries doing much better than this HP model, even NotebookCheck mentioned this in their review:

The battery life of the Omni 10 (31 Wh; 4:55 hours WLAN test) will not earn it any trophies. The competitors can last 54% (Miix 2 8: 17.5 Wh) and 119% (Transformer Book T100TA: 30 Wh) longer.

User reviews from Amazon mention iPad 4-like battery life for the Dell Venue 11 Pro (Z3770-based, 10'' 1080p IPS screen - a proper comparison to the Surface 2) and +15 hours of regular use with the keyboard dock.

(6) It gets 8 to 10 hrs of battery life (15 to 18+hrs with the keyboard dock). The deal breaker for me is 8hrs. A tablet must get 8hrs of normal usage or 8hrs of video streaming at 720p. This tablet gets about 8hrs in heavy continuous usage and more like 10 hrs in typical on and off usage. I have tested it.

Found this Lenovo H500s Bay Trail desktop while browsing Newegg yesterday:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...27&ignorebbr=1

(Celeron J1750, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Windows 8, $329.99 plus $2.99 shipping)

The chassis is identical to the Ivy Bridge powered H520s and the Haswell powered H530s. The major difference being the TFX PSU is replaced by an AC Power adapter and a block out plate is added to the rear panel. I also suspect (based on prior Bobcat variants of this chassis) the front intake fan is removed as well (due to the lower power of the Bay Trail processor).

Clicking on the gallery images in the Newegg link, the chassis is mostly filled with air and empty space (this partly due to the removal of the TFX PSU.) There are two SATA ports on the motherboard which is just enough to cover the use of the optical and 3.5" drives. (SIDE NOTE: The Lenovo H520s/H530s actually comes with an extra SATA port that goes unused. A rare find in a mass produced pre-built SFF desktop)

As far as the pricing of $329.99 plus $2.99 shipping goes, I suspect we will see that drop pretty significantly over time. I have seen variants of the H520s/H530s fetch anywhere from $250 to $300 (Pentium) and $300 to $350 (Core i3) when on sale.

EDIT: Found a H500s for $278 Free Shipping at Fry's -->http://www.frys.com/product/7986220?...%20date:013114

wait a minute, the 820M is connected to where? I hope they went for a USB wifi and decided to plug the 820M to the 4 pcie lanes if not, the x1 gona hurt its performance.

Also the green guys where excelent at figuring out the 820M was needed, can we call it ION 3.0? it will also even the odds of BT vs desktops Kabinis too if oems go for it, but for god sake, plug the 820M to all 4 pci-e lanes!

with such a huge case, using this CPU and not Haswell Celeron is pretty poor cost reduction choice I think,

any J1750 reviews?

Bay Trail-T Atom Z3735G and Z3775D appear in benchmarks

Atom Z3735G (expected to be found in $99-149 tablets) has four Silvermont cores running @ 1.3-1.8GHz. Great performance for cheaper Android tablets this year.

Acer SW5-011A packs Z3735G, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 1280x800 screen, Android 4.3.
AnTuTu score: 26.900 points - similar to the S600 powered $299 LG G Pad 8.3.

Atom Z3775D (targeting +$200 tablets) is also a quad-core, with 1.49GHz base clock (2.4GHz Turbo). A prototype running Android 4.4.2 KitKat (2GB RAM) scores 37.265 points (AnTuTu).

Yes, I'd imagine having a Haswell G1820 in there could make it even cheaper compared to Haswell G3220 or Haswell Core i3.

....but on the H500s is not just the processor that has been downgraded. The PSU that has been swapped from a TFX to a 65 watt AC adapter. The H500s motherboard also looks more stripped down compared to the Micro-ATX found on the Haswell H530s.(eg, it is missing HDMI output and there is only one SO-DIMM slot compared to the two DIMM slots on the H530s.)

MSI Bay Trail-D (J18001) sub $60 due sometime this month:

http://www.fanlesstech.com/2014/01/60-bay-trail-d-motherboard-shipping.html

J1800 Bay Trail (2.41 Ghz dual core with 2.58 Ghz turbo)
2 x SO-DIMM
VGA, DVI, HDMI (The Biostar J1800NH and ECS BAT-I have just VGA and HDMI)
PCI-E x1 (a closed slot.... just like the Biostar J1800NH and ECS BAT-I Bay Trail Mini-ITX boards)
two SATA 3 Gbps ports
two usb 3.0
four usb 2.0
Gigabit Ethernet

A quad core for $10 more is supposed to come out shortly afterward.

AFAIK this brings the number of Bay Trail Mini-ITX consumer boards to four, Here are the other three:

Biostar J1800NH Mini-ITX--> http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=688#spec
ECS BAT-I (V1.0) Mini-ITX--> http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...goryID=1&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=17&LanID=0
ECS BAT-TI thin Mini-ITX--> http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ecs-v20-mini-lake-bat-i-v20,25679.html

P.S. The ECS website also lists a BAT-I2 (V1.0) which would bring the total of Bay Trail Consumer Mini-ITX to five, but so far no information listed--> http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...yID=1&TypeID=46&MenuID=17&childid=M_7&LanID=0

Another Bay Trail Mini-ITX to add to the above list:

Gigabyte-J1800N-D2H:

http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4881#ov

Celeron J1800
two SO-DIMM slots
two SATA 3 Gbps connectors
one PCI-E x1 slot
one Mini PCI Express slot (does not support usb bluetooth signals)
Gigabit Ethernet
HDMI
VGA
one usb 3.0 on back panel
four usb 2.0 on back panel
one usb 2.0 header
Realtek ALC887 7.1 audio
three audio jacks
PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports
