He should have gone through due process and if found guilty paid some form of reasonable restitution, done community service and been on probation for some relatively short period of time (e.g. 2 years). IMO he should not have had to do "hard time".

He probably got more than $10k from his media appearances and concert performance while most of the media was going along with Jussie's version of the story.You do realize that he did not get off entirely, right? He was fined $10,000 and did some community service. The results of his crime were to waste a bunch of the Chicago PD's time and while that's certainly bad and deserving of punishment (if for no other reason than to deter others), it's not that big a deal. People are hyper-sensitive to racial issues and this is the reverse of when some liberals overreact to racial issues the other way.
