Women's archery final was pretty tense yesterday. If tied there is a final arrow shoot off and closest to center wins. I can't even imagine that pressure.

Someone mentioned field hockey earlier and I checked it out and it was pretty damn entertaining. Lots of fast paced action.

The men's judo final had a pretty sick takedown to win it. It was the equivalent of an immediate TKO and the guy won. Putin was happy.

I been watching Field hockey. Damn that is one awesome game. It looks like a lot of fun.

I missed the judo. my son watched part and loved it. he is excited to watch "real" wrestling and teakwondo heh

The amount of commercials tonight is fucking awful. One person on uneven bars. 3 minutes of commercials. One person on uneven bars. 3 minutes of commercials. One person on uneven bars. 3 minutes of commercials. Seriously? Not going to watch if they're doing this shit.

It is definitely a PITA. Thats why I watch my tape delay on a tape delay and fast forward through the commercials

Watched mens volleyball USA-Brazil. I think USA is taking Gold.

That was a very very good game

Eesh

And now, a selection from Fourth-Place Medal's forthcoming coffee table book, "Elbows Shouldn't Look Like That":

Hmm more controversy. Apparently it's ok to crash in a cycling race on purpose.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/cycling/ioc-clears-british-cyclist-of-deliberate-crash.html

LONDON (AP) — An apparent deliberate crash by British track cycling gold medalist Philip Hindes for tactical reasons is not being investigated, the International Olympic Committee said Friday.

The incident in the team sprint final Thursday raised further questions about athletes' ethical behavior at the London Games after four women's badminton pairs were disqualified for playing to lose.

Hindes told reporters that team strategy was "if we have a bad start we need to crash to get a restart."

The 19-year-old wobbled starting the three-lap race against France and fell at the first bend. The British trio, including Sir Chris Hoy, won the restarted race.

"I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I did it. So it was all planned, really," Hindes reportedly said immediately after the race. He modified his comments at the official news conference to say he lost control of his bike.

It's apparently ok for the British to use the rules to his advantage, but no the Chinese?

If it is allowable by the rules, good for them.

The badmitten players didn't break the rules either.

They dq'd the badmitten players because it was unsportsman like and not in the olympic spirit..

How was that cyclist not unsportsmanlike or not in the olympic spirit?

I guess it depends. If the person in question is a British citizen but of Chinese heritage then, no, it wouldn't be okay.

Usually badminton rules do not apply to cycling and vice versa.

edit: quoted the wrong post.

i never knew sportsmanship could be selectively applied to sports.

I also never knew that sportsmanship only is a badminton rule.

Well the point is the rule he listed is specifically from the BWF rulebook.
I agree that subjectively being judge ed/ruled is stupid.
That's why I say (again and again) "injury" was their ticket out.

Its not, its against the rules which is why players that fight serve penalties for it.

Hockey > *

Yet no charges are filed. I mean it's not like an accidental punch or whatever, these guys are straight up duking it out on the court.

stupid there's a rule for that only in badminton. Shouldn't the IOC adopt that rule for all of the Olympics? "Spirit of the Olympics" was cited as a reason - I didn't even know about the badminton-specific rule.

On the ice, yes. And whats even more funny is that most of them are Canadians.

Just goes to show you how violent they are under all those "Eh's"

Seriously though, fighting isn't really that big of a deal and IMO it shows the pussification of this country that any minor altercation is grounds for assault and battery charges. Calling the cops for fights at school.

Man has the world changed, and not for the better
