Damn... that's smaller than my college town.
Perhaps you hit Boyle's point on the head?
this NHS section is disastrous
who is this dude doing chariots of fire and why should i care?
He's a famous Birtish Comedian, you may know him as "Mr Bean"
Is Paul gonna croak? He's terribly offkey and cracking.
Seems like we were all pretty pleased with it over here. Danny Boyle is awesome and did a great job, I'm not sure how it translated across the sea as you guys probably wouldn't get some of the "Englishness / Britishness" of it all.
Why do Olympic announcements always start with French? (Not just UK).
This has bothered me for decades.
Who gives a crap about French? No one speaks it except France and some fringe ex-colonies.
I believe the most widely used languages are English and Spanish. Is it just snobby politics that got French into it?
It's official. UK Olympic Ceremony is a terrible circlejerk snoozefest.
I remember the 2008 Beijing ceremony thread here. Nothing but woos and ahhs, I remember we were even telling Bob Costa to stfu whenever he made unnecessary political comments.
It's always nice to see him though. He's an excellent performer, and all things considered he sounds pretty damn good. What I find depressing is that he's the best the UK could muster, and he's old. A throwback to a "better time" as it were. There's nothing even slightly younger that remotely touches him.
So.. you're saying that the current culture in your country is rather trivial?
I agree that some parts were good, but some parts were just downright embarrassing/amateurish when on the global stage.

Whut? He sounded like shit.

I'd put it this way:
China "conveyed" Chinese ideals.
The UK "showed" British culture.
Prime example: Mr. Bean in Chariots of Fire. I only have a vague knowledge of the man by name, haven't seen much of his work. Many others know even less. I'm sure the Brits loved this moment, but the Olympics aren't a British event, they're a world event. It's a time for big, overarching, fundamental themes. In some ways the UK show succeeded there (the early bits with the industrial revolution), then it seemed like they got desperate for material.
Yes, it is all great in china, you do not have to repeat over and over and over again in this thread. BTW, this thread is about 2012, not 2008.
Oh, this is soooo great about china Olympic = http://abcnews.go.com/International...-exposing-chinas-oppression/story?id=16872274 Funny how you did not repeat that over and over and over....and.....
