stupid there's a rule for that only in badminton. Shouldn't the IOC adopt that rule for all of the Olympics? "Spirit of the Olympics" was cited as a reason - I didn't even know about the badminton-specific rule.

I guess it depends. If the person in question is a British citizen but of Chinese heritage then, no, it wouldn't be okay.
