Let's talk chairs, the most important piece of Hardware that we don't think about.

I think about it, I went to staples and spent like an hour there trying all the office chairs. I got a good one but frankly most office chairs don't seem to favor long periods of gaming. I think I'll have to go online for my next one.

The seat on my is all worn out. I really like what people are using and the opinion.

It looks like dc racer chairs are very good, and on the soft side. If you are a bit overweight you may want to consider something like the maxnomic chairs with a tougher material. This is probably the most critical because the last thing you want in a chair is for your butt to rest against the skeleton plastic/wood/metal of the seat. I haven't done much research however as I am no where close to wanting to plunk $400 on a chair yet.

Depends on how you like to sit. I prefer what is considered a 'secretary' chair... just a basic office swivel chair, no arms. It allows me to set upright, all the way into the desk. I hate slouching (or what seems to me like slouching) while sitting in a traditional office chair... and the arms are always getting in the way.

It's funny... when I worked in an office as a dispatcher, they gave all of us a $500 allowance to buy any office chair we wanted... everyone else was getting these big high-back executive chairs... I get the $89 dictation chair.

This :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Here's what I use - just an old, basic chair. The tightening mechanism for the back doesn't work but it's fine in the lowest position.

Works great, allows me to rest forearms on the desk while leaning back. My mouse and keyboard are about 25-30cm from the edge which is comfortable because it's just soft tissue on the desk, the elbow is just over the edge.

That's pretty much it!

I have a bad back, I have to sit bolt upright or my lower back suffers. I actually rest both my elbows on the desktop to type, and saves me some back strain.

That is actually the bad way of doing it. Your spine is arching forward. You should be resting your elbows on the arm rest so they are vertical.

It isn't about what its called or what it looks like really. It is all about the build of the cushion. Alot of the leather cladded exec chairs in staples are soft and don't have that much cushion. After a couple hours you are resting on the wood base.

I'm 6'2"... when I set at my desk with my arms on the desk, I'm still setting upright. I have never found a chair with arms that were tall enough to allow me to do what you suggest. I do change the keyboard position around a bit at long sessions (usually where my elbows are just off the desk) but, by and large, it's not an issue.

But I do agree... pay the money for a good chair. My last office chair was a Hon... that thing was rock solid.

Same here, and I'm not even as tall as you. But I have quite long arms. I can't quite imagine how it'd work, I mean using a chair with arm rests. In order rest my shoulders and have elbows in a 90 degree angle, I'd need to sit so high compared to the desk that my legs would squeeze between the chair and the desk uncomfortably. It just wouldn't work.

I use a heavily modified Rattan swivel chair. Been using it for 20 years. It looks like crap but its so awesome and I cant seem to find a new one that has all the same properties. I can lean way back and put my feet up. I attached a 5lb counterweight to the front for added balance.

If I was to replace it I would go with something like this:

http://www.cymax.com/international-caravan-swivel-rocker-chair-in-java-3310-93310-ms-jv.htm

But I aint paying $250 for a goddam chair. The really sick thing is that there are some designs that go over $1000.

Judging by your signature, the keyboard doesn't even fit in the same scale with other, lesser peripherals

i like typing on it, but i can't tell any improvement whatsoever to my gameplay since i upgraded from a 8 euro dell membrane kb.

on the other hand, a proper gaming mouse + a large mousemat have contributed the most. having a nice, large (and perfectly flat) desk where i can have enough space for everything, including an improvised monitor stand, also helped with gameplay. and finally an office chair, because doing marathon gaming runs eventually hurts when you got a cheap wooden chair.

(i wish i could afford to spend 500 pound on a Gsync monitor, but for now i gotta stick with my hannspree)

I'd opt for an adjustable standing desk. It doesn't matter if your chair is $10 or $1000, if your butt is glued to that 8+ hours a day, you're taking years off your lifespan.
