Ya I had the same problem before I pulled the X-Fi. When running the speaker test, all channels including sub worked, but in actual games, the LFE signal isn't split to the woofer so Bass ends up being distorted through the satellites. In XP, the simple solution was to simply click the Bass Redirect checkbox in the Creative Audio Console, but that functionality (along with remixing etc.) is stripped in Vista. Your best bet is to try and hunt down that DVD Evolucion8 mentioned in order to get a functional Audio Console.
