I've always built athlon systems. I was going to try the new Celeron D

What is a good - but a budget board to use with this processor? I'm confused by the Intel terminology. . .

I've had good luck with ASUS on AMD - maybe someone recommend a lower end ASUS board for Intel that will work with this processor?

This is a socket 478 533 mhz processor - does any socket 478 motherboard work?

if you want budget, go with teh sempron. it's faster and cheaper then the celeron d's.

Anand's review shows them pretty well matched - like I said I just want to try it - I'll probably sell it later. . .

What board does anyone recommend?

I have no real experience with them, but all socket 478 motherboards should support them.

No actually only modern prescott supported motherboards and a few select "Celeron-D" supported motherboards will work.

As a rule of thumb any non i865/i875 board probably wont work. Unless you can find documentation or a new bios that specifically states the motherboard works with the Celeron-D, assume it doesnt.

Easy way to tell, go to newegg, it states Pentium 4/Celeron supported on the motherboards.

give him a break on the celly D. i've heard if you get one of the lower speed ones they have they can get very high clock speeds. because of the tiny cache they can usually get higher overclocks than the actual pentium 4s. they also make less heat cause of this. get a good overclocking board and have fun. keep in mind you can get good speeds, but it still takes a 4 GHz celeron to match a 3 GHz Pentium 4 which matches a 2 GHz athlon 64

uggg I will not ever give Intel my money for any Celeron. I am still upset with Intel ripping my Grandfather off with that slow lagging piece of junk. Even my grandfather regrets getting that Dell lappy. He does Money and Office stuff and his 1700+ desktop pc feels much better to him. And his Celeron is 2.3ghz. I messed around on his lappy and it is indeed a dogg. The new Celerons are much better, but AMD has it equaled or beaton, so I will not give Intel any of my money for that cpu, instead I will give it to AMD since they have always had very good Value cpu's. True value with performance. They never should have released that original Williamette Celeron. It was truly aweful. Sorry for the ranting

I want to build this system for a budge intel build to get experience. I'm going to sell it, k?

Now with that given - can someone recommend to me a good budget board for these processors?

It has nothing to do with sentiment. It has to do with bang for the buck. Why would you spend more on something that provides less? If you are a Intel fan thats fine, get their value cpu even if you can get something better for less. Theres then no need to post a thread asking for questions on the cpu when you are going to ignore them anyways. Everyone pretty much told you that the cpu sucks. Yet, you said you are going to get it anyways. I guess I just don't understand. Your business I guess.

My question was simple. I wanted to know what a good budget board was for the new Celeron D processors. Not being familiar with the options, and seeing the review on the main page of Anandtech, I felt this was an appropritate and on-topic question for the hardware forum. I understand the AMD is the best bang for the buck, all of that.

This new processor looked intriguing to me as it is the first budget processor by Intel that seems to have some ummmph. . .

I wanted to build one play with it a couple of days then sell it. While you persist in making your point known - I will persist in asking my original question - what is a good budget board to use with this processor?

Thank you for not letting me know they excellent qualities of AMD processors anymore. If you had read my last post you would have seen that my main rig is an AMD 2400 - and I have no intention of changing it anytime soon.

Thank you for your input, but further AMD vs. Intel sentiment is not desired by the OP in this thread. . .

Pay no attention to the AMD fanboys. Try an ASUS P4R800-VM (Newegg $77). It supports Prescott and should work with Celeron D. Has built-in Radeon 9200 graphics, plus an agp slot. Mine works great with a Prescott 2.8.

Hey there,
It may be too late, but I bought a ASRock P4S61 and it seems pretty good to me - great bios, good for overclocking, and the built in video, although not ATI, is 64MB and has 3D acceleration. SimCity 4 seems to work ok lol

Oh, and I think AsRock is an ASUS low-end spinoff
